DNA methylation at AHRR as a master predictor of smoke exposure and a biomarker for sleep and exercise.

Background: DNA methylation profiling may provide a more accurate measure of the smoking status than self-report and may be useful in guiding clinical interventions and forensic investigations. In the current study, blood DNA methylation profiles of nearly 800 Polish individuals were assayed using Illuminia EPIC and the inference of smoking from epigenetic data was explored. In addition, we focused on the role of the AHRR gene as a top marker for smoking and investigated its responsiveness to other lifestyle behaviors.

Thermo-Mechanical Treatment for Reducing the Wear Rate of CuCrZr Tool Electrodes during Electro-Discharge Machining.

The research presented in this paper focused on optimising the process of unconventional plastic forming by hydrostatic extrusion (HE) with post-processing heat treatment of a copper alloy (CuCrZr) for electro-discharge machining (EDM) applications. The treatment was carried out in such a way as to obtain a material with an improved microstructure, characterised by a significant increase in hardness and strength while maintaining a high electrical conductivity, thus achieving the main goal of reducing electrode wear in the EDM process. As part of the research, a material with an ultrafine-grained structure was obtained with an average grain size of = 320 nm and a much higher strength of = 645 MPa compared to the material in the initial state ( = 413 MPa).

MRI-guided Pelvic Radiation Therapy: A Primer for Radiologists.

Radiation therapy (RT) is a core pillar of oncologic treatment, and half of all patients with cancer receive this therapy as a curative or palliative treatment. The recent integration of MRI into the RT workflow has led to the advent of MRI-guided RT (MRIgRT). Using MRI rather than CT has clear advantages for guiding RT to pelvic tumors, including superior soft-tissue contrast, improved organ motion visualization, and the potential to image tumor phenotypic characteristics to identify the most aggressive or treatment-resistant areas, which can be targeted with a more focal higher radiation dose.

Effect of microstructure refinement of pure copper on improving the performance of electrodes in electro discharge machining (EDM).

The paper presents an analysis of the impact of plastic deformation using hydrostatic extrusion (HE) on the structural, mechanical and functional properties of pure copper for use as electrodes in the process of electro discharge machining (EDM). As part of the research, copper was subjected to the HE process with the maximum cumulative true strain equal to ɛ = 3.89 obtained in 5 stages.

Continuous, real-time monitoring of occupational health and safety in high-risk workplaces such as construction sites can substantially improve the safety of workers. However, introducing such systems in practice is associated with a number of challenges, such as scaling up the solution while keeping its cost low. Patterns of Failure in High-Grade Soft Tissue Sarcomas of the Extremities and Trunk Wall After Pre- or Postoperative Radiation Therapy.

Purpose: Radiotherapy (RT) is a mainstay of treatment for high-grade soft tissue sarcomas (STS). We sought to examine the pattern of local recurrence (LR) with regard to target volume, clinical course, and tumor characteristics in extremity and trunk wall STS patients receiving pre- or postoperative RT.

Methods And Materials: In this retrospective study, LR rates and patterns in 91 adult patients with a primary diagnosis of localized high-grade STS of the extremities and trunk wall treated with pre- or postoperative RT at our institution between 2004 and 2021 were analyzed.

Determinants of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and access among people experiencing homelessness in Germany: A qualitative interview study.

Introduction: People experiencing homelessness face lower life expectancy, higher prevalence of somatic and mental diseases and a more difficult access to healthcare compared to people in secure living. During the COVID-19 pandemic transmission rates were higher among people experiencing homelessness and preventive public health measures were not properly adapted to the specific needs of people experiencing homelessness. Background: The length of the second and fourth finger calculated as a ratio (2D:4D) is a marker of prenatal exposure to sex hormones. Higher exposure to testosterone is related to a lower 2D:4D digit ratio, and inversely, higher exposure to estrogen is related to a higher 2D:4D. Association of prenatal sex steroid exposure estimated by the digit ratio (2D:4D) with birth weight, BMI and muscle strength in 6- to 13-year-old Polish children.

Objectives: The aim of this paper was to provide evidence for the impact of prenatal sex steroid exposure on prenatal and postnatal body size parameters, and muscle strength in children.

Methods: The following anthropometric data were studied in a group of 1148 children (536 boys and 612 girls) aged 6-13 years: the 2D:4D digit ratio, birth weight and length, and birth head and chest circumference. Postnatal parameters (6-13 years) included body weight and height, BMI, waist and hip circumference, WHR, as well as grip strength in both hands.
