The nematode is an emerging human pathogen. Though its life cycle is not well studied, it likely infects humans after a bite from a black fly vector, which in turn acquires infective microfilariae from an infected canid. These microfilariae mature into an infective larval stage within the fly.

Among the many graph convolutional network (GCN) approaches used in skeleton-based action recognition, semantic-guided neural networks (SGNs) are fast action recognition algorithms that hierarchically learn spatial and temporal features by applying a GCN. However, because an SGN focuses on global feature learning rather than local feature learning owing to the structural characteristics, there is a limit to an action recognition in which the dependency between neighbouring nodes is important.

A machine learning (ML) model to classify the risk of advanced cancer patients with septic shock is proposed and compared with the existing scoring systems. A multi-center, retrospective, observational study of the septic shock registry in patients with stage 4 cancer was divided into a training set and a test set in a 7:3 ratio.

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) stimulated gene (TSG)-6 is a strong regulator of anti-inflammatory pathways, but its role in cancer cells remains unclear. We hypothesized that hypoxia up-regulates TSG-6, thereby increasing the metastatic and growth potential of cancer cells.

The pullback pressure gradient (PPG) quantifies CAD patterns as either focal or diffuse based on fractional flow reserve (FFR) pullbacks. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of CAD patterns on acute percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) results considered surrogates of clinical outcomes.

Therefore, as a retrospective study, 28 cases of spayed heifers were reviewed for postoperative changes after employing this method, with inclusion criteria including complete medical records for clinical observation, ultrasonography, measuring reproductive hormones, and tracking slaughter records. No mortality and heat signs at the pubertal age postoperatively occurred in spayed animals.

Improved communication between providers within ICUs may reduce morbidity. The goal of this study is to leverage a natural experiment of the temporally staggered implementation of a smart phone application for interprofessional communication to quantify the association with postoperative mortality and morbidity among critically ill surgical patients.

Here, humidity-tunable nano pixels are investigated with a 700 nm resolution that demonstrates full standard RGB (sRGB) gamut coverage with a millisecond-response time. The color pixels are designed as Fabry-Pérot (F-P) etalons which consist of an aluminum mirror substrate, humidity-responsive polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) spacer, and a top layer of disordered silver nanoparticles (NPs).

However, methods completely eliminating the effector function of these signal-regulating antibodies is urgently required. The heterogeneity of glycan chains in antibodies limits their use as therapeutic agents due to their variability; thus, the development of uniform glycan chains is necessary.

By using directed evolution, we successfully identified Fc mutations that improve the pH-dependent binding of human FcRn and prolong the serum persistence of a model IgG antibody and an Fc-fusion protein. Strikingly, trastuzumab-PFc29 and aflibercept-PFc29, a model therapeutic IgG antibody and an Fc-fusion protein, respectively, when combined with our engineered Fc (Q311R/M428L), both exhibited significantly higher serum half-lives in human FcRn transgenic mice than their counterparts with wild-type Fc.

Nevertheless, their elasticity and strength are attractive properties for use in flexible, wearable-devices, and their swelling characteristics in response to the relative humidity highlight their potential for use in tunable nanophotonics. We investigate the use of nanostructured polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) using a one-step nanoimprinting technique for tunable and erasable optical security metasurfaces with multiplexed structural coloration and metaholography.

CaSiO perovskite is believed to be the third-most-abundant mineral throughout the lower mantle, following bridgmanite and ferropericlase. Here we experimentally show that the calcium solubility in bridgmanite increases steeply at about 2,300 kelvin and above 40 gigapascals to a level sufficient for a complete dissolution of all CaSiO component in pyrolite into bridgmanite, resulting in the disappearance of CaSiO perovskite at depths greater than about 1,800 kilometres along the geotherm.

Whether and how AhR alters degradation of lipids, particularly phospho-/sphingo-lipids during alcohol exposure, was not explored. Here, we show that alcohol consumption in mice results in induction and activation of aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) in the liver, and changes the hepatic phospho-/sphingo-lipids content.

Background: YouTube is one of the most popular video-sharing websites in Korea, but incorrect or biased information is not properly regulated. Acne is common in adolescents and young adults who are familiar with YouTube. Thus, misleading information about isotretinoin in YouTube videos could distort the perception of treatment.

We quantified false duplications in popularly used previous genome assemblies for platypus, zebra finch, and Anna's Hummingbird, and their new counterparts of the same species generated by the Vertebrate Genomes Project, of which the Vertebrate Genomes Project pipeline attempted to eliminate false duplications through haplotype phasing and purging. These assemblies are among the first generated by the Vertebrate Genomes Project where there was a prior chromosomal level reference assembly to compare with.

The Vertebrate Genomes Project has been producing new reference genome assemblies with an emphasis on being as complete and error-free as possible, which requires utilizing long reads, long-range scaffolding data, new assembly algorithms, and manual curation. A more thorough evaluation of the recent references relative to prior assemblies can provide a detailed overview of the types and magnitude of improvements.
