Objective: This trial aimed to compare three low-energy diets (LEDs) with different amounts of carbohydrates (CHO) on ketosis and changes in hunger feelings in adults with obesity.
Methods: A total of 101 adults (51 female) with obesity (BMI, mean [SEM], 34.7 [0.
Castration resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) remains an incurable disease stage with ineffective treatments options. Here, the androgen receptor (AR) coactivators CBP/p300, which are histone acetyltransferases, were identified as critical mediators of DNA damage repair (DDR) to potentially enhance therapeutic targeting of CRPC. Key findings demonstrate that CBP/p300 expression increases with disease progression and selects for poor prognosis in metastatic disease.

Methods: We included two patient groups: 19 non-demented Parkinson's disease (nPD) patients with [F]FDG PET and motor symptoms assessed by UPDRS-III, and 65 Lewy body dementia (LBD) patients with [F]FDG PET and dopamine radioisotope imaging. Asymmetry indices were calculated for [F]FDG PET by including the cortex for each hemisphere, for dopamine radioisotope imaging by including the putamen and caudate separately, and for motor symptoms by using the difference between right-left UPDRS-III score.
Objective: The clinical decisions and actions of evidence-based practice in psychology (EBPP) are largely underspecified and poorly understood, in part due to the lack of measurement methods. We tested the reliability of a behavioral coding system that characterizes a flow of interrelated activities that includes problem detection and prioritization, intervention selection and implementation, and review of intervention integrity and impact.
Method: The context included two publicly funded youth mental health service organizations located in geographically distinct and underresourced communities in the U.
Plasmalogens are vinyl-ether glycerophospholipids critical for the structure and function of neuronal membranes. Deficient plasmalogen levels are associated with neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD), which has led to the hypothesis that plasmalogen deficiency might drive disease onset and progression. However, the lack of a suitable animal model with late-onset plasmalogen deficiency has prevented testing of this hypothesis.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTelemedicine has routinely been used in cancer care delivery for the past 3 years. The current state of digital health provides convenience and efficiency for both health-care professional and patient, but challenges exist in equitable access to virtual services. As increasingly newer technologies are added to telehealth platforms, it is essential to eliminate barriers to access through technical, procedural, and legislative improvements.

This qualitative study addresses calls for further research on the meaning of working for older workers using the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis approach to explore in-depth the dimensions underlying the subjective experience of meaningful work among 27 nurses and nursing assistants aged 55-75 years. The findings show that work was perceived as a primary source of: (1) personal identity (2) purpose and contribution, (3) competence and accomplishment, (4) social contacts and belongingness, (5) activity, routines and purposeful use of time, and (6) economic security and freedom.

Mice were pulmonary exposed to 26 well-characterized CNTs using the same experimental design and followed for one day, 28 days or 3 months. This resulted in a unique dataset, which was used to identify physicochemical predictors of pulmonary inflammation and systemic acute phase response.

Rates of asymptomatic treatment of urinary tract infection (UTI) has not been thoroughly evaluated within the inpatient psychiatry population. The objective of this study is to describe the rate of antibiotic use for the treatment of asymptomatic UTI in psychiatric inpatients and investigate factors contributing to overuse.

Extensive research has demonstrated cholinergic alterations in the CNS of these disorders. More recently, studies have revealed cholinergic denervation in organs that receive parasympathetic denervation.

Methods: Thirty-three patients with T2D were investigated bimodally through (1) a standardized clinical cardiovascular adrenergic assessment, evaluating adequacy of blood pressure responses to the Valsalva maneuver and (2) I-meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) scintigraphy assessing myocardial adrenergic innervation measured as early and delayed heart heart/mediastinum (H/M) ratio, and washout rate (WR).
Results: T2D patients had significantly lower early and delayed H/M-ratios, and lower WR, compared to laboratory specific reference values.
Background: The lower airway microbiota in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are likely altered compared with the microbiota in healthy individuals. Information on how the microbiota is affected by smoking, use of inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) and COPD severity is still scarce.
Methods: In the MicroCOPD Study, participant characteristics were obtained through standardised questionnaires and clinical measurements at a single centre from 2012 to 2015.
Introduction: We previously reported that cholesterol homeostasis in prostate cancer (PC) is regulated by 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC) and that CYP27A1, the enzyme that converts cholesterol to 27HC, is frequently lost in PCs. We observed that restoring the CYP27A1/27HC axis inhibited PC growth. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of 27HC-mediated anti-PC effects.

Dementia with Lewy bodies is characterized by a high burden of autonomic dysfunction and Lewy pathology in peripheral organs and components of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Parasympathetic terminals may be quantified with 18F-fluoroetoxybenzovesamicol, a PET tracer that binds to the vesicular acetylcholine transporter in cholinergic presynaptic terminals. Parasympathetic imaging may be useful for diagnostics, improving our understanding of autonomic dysfunction and for clarifying the spatiotemporal relationship of neuronal degeneration in prodromal disease.

However, the perspective of mass production of these nanowires raises concern for human safety due to their asbestos- and carbon nanotube-like properties, including their high aspect ratio shape. Indeed, III-V nanowires have similar dimensions as Mitsui-7 multi-walled carbon nanotubes, which induce lung cancer by inhalation in rats.

Here we show that the decrease of the master regulator microphthalmia transcription factor (MITF) in lethal prostate cancer unleashes eukaryotic initiation factor 3B (eIF3B)-dependent translation reprogramming of key mRNAs conferring resistance to androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) and promoting immune evasion. Mechanistically, MITF represses through direct promoter binding eIF3B, which in turn regulates the translation of specific mRNAs.
