Age-related differences in cortical microstructure are used to understand the neuronal mechanisms that underlie human brain ageing. The cerebral vasculature contributes to cortical ageing, but its precise interaction with cortical microstructure is poorly understood. In a cross-sectional study, we combine venous imaging with vessel distance mapping to investigate the interaction between venous distances and age-related differences in the microstructural architecture of the primary somatosensory cortex, the primary motor cortex and additional areas in the frontal cortex as non-sensorimotor control regions.

The Health-Analytics Data to Evidence Suite (HADES) is an open-source software collection developed by Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI). It executes directly against healthcare data such as electronic health records and administrative claims, that have been converted to the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model. Using advanced analytics, HADES performs characterization, population-level causal effect estimation, and patient-level prediction, potentially across a federated data network, allowing patient-level data to remain locally while only aggregated statistics are shared.

Prinzmetal angina is a rare cause of intermittent chest pain in paediatrics. Here, we report the case of a 2-year-old female who presented with episodic chest pain, malaise, diaphoresis, fatigue, and poor perfusion on exam. During her hospitalisation, these episodes were associated with significant low cardiac output as evidenced by lactic acidosis and low mixed venous oxygen saturations.

Background: The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of an Exercise is Medicine on Campus® program on university student biometrics and muscular endurance. It was hypothesized that participants in the 12-week program would experience significant improvements in body mass index, blood pressure, body fat percentage, waist circumference, and muscular endurance.

Methods: To be eligible for the program, participants must have met two of the three criteria: (1) blood pressure over 140 and/or 90 (3 consecutive measurements over 2 weeks), (2) BMI over 30, and/or (3) diagnosed chronic condition or currently taking medication for chronic condition.

Objectives: Patients hospitalized with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). The aim of this study was to determine whether the adoption of a VTE protocol would change rates of medical VTE prophylaxis (low molecular weight heparin) in patients with IBD and a central venous catheter (CVC), while subsequently decreasing the incidence of VTE in this population.

Hemophilia is the deficiency of plasma clotting factor VIII (hemophilia A) or IX (hemophilia B) where management focuses on the prevention and treatment of acute bleeding symptoms and their sequelae. The most concerning risk is for life-threatening bleeding, including intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), which is caused by head trauma. Guidelines exist for the evaluation and management of pediatric head trauma, including the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) protocol, but limited evidence exists for when hemophilia patients present to the emergency department (ED), specifically with head trauma.

BACKGROUND SARS-CoV-2 infection or COVID-19 disease has been linked to the onset of diabetes and metabolic dysregulation because it has been suggested that viral entry proteins, specifically ACE2 and TMPRSS2, are expressed in the exocrine cells and ductal epithelium of the pancreas. Because of the unknown effect this can have on islet function, there can be doubt that patients with previous SARS-CoV-2 infections are good candidates for autologous islet transplantation after total pancreatectomy (TPAIT).
