Questions persist on the relationship between tourism dependence and economic growth in ethnic tourism areas. This study addresses such gaps by constructing a threshold regression model based on socio-economic data from 2006 to 2019 for nine sites in Enshi Prefecture of central China. ArcGIS and other open-source data were also used to visualize changing tourism resources in the region.

Since cardiac relaxation is commonly impaired in heart failure caused by many different etiologies, identifying druggable targets is a common goal. While many factors contribute to cardiac relaxation, this review focuses on sarcomeric relaxation and dysfunction. Any alteration in how sarcomeric proteins interact can lead to significant shifts in sarcomeric relaxation that may contribute to diastolic dysfunction.

A simple protocol to produce mature human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes.

When cultured under typical conditions, human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs) are structurally and functionally immature. We have previously demonstrated that culture of hiPSC-CMs in maturation medium containing fatty acids, in combination with culture on micropatterned surfaces, produces cells that demonstrate a more mature phenotype compared to standard approaches. Here, we show in detail the steps needed to produce mature hiPSC-CMs.

Background: Neoadjuvant chemotherapy is often used prior to surgical resection for oesophageal adenocarcinoma but remains ineffective in a high proportion of patients. The histological Mandard tumour regression grade is used to determine chemoresponse but is not available at the time of treatment decision-making. The aim of this cohort study was to identify factors that predict chemotherapy response prior to surgery.

Deidentifying MRIs constitutes an imperative challenge, as it aims at precluding the possibility of re-identification of a research subject or patient, but at the same time it should preserve as much geometrical information as possible, in order to maximize data reusability and to facilitate interoperability. Although several deidentification methods exist, no comprehensive and comparative evaluation of deidentification performance has been carried out across them. Moreover, the possible ways these methods can compromise subsequent analysis has not been exhaustively tested.

In this observational study, we have examined diverse biochemical parameters in the caudate and putamen of patients with Lewy body diseases (LBDs) and Alzheimer disease (AD), shedding some light on the involvement of oxidative damage and neuroinflammation in advanced neurodegeneration.

The role of surgery after prolonged primary chemotherapy for advanced oesophageal adenocarcinoma.

Background: Most patients presenting with oesophageal cancer do so with advanced disease not suitable for surgery. However, there are examples of encouraging survival following surgery in highly selected patients who respond well to chemotherapy.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of patients who presented with advanced but nonvisceral metastatic oesophageal cancer.

Background: The prevalence of current or past coronavirus disease 2019 in skilled nursing facility (SNF) residents is unknown because of asymptomatic infection and constrained testing capacity early in the pandemic. We conducted a seroprevalence survey to determine a more comprehensive prevalence of past coronavirus disease 2019 in Los Angeles County SNF residents and staff members.

Methods: We recruited participants from 24 facilities; participants were requested to submit a nasopharyngeal swab sample for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing and a serum sample for detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.
