Metabolic syndrome therapy in pediatric age - between classic and modern. From diets to pipeline drugs.

The metabolic syndrome, made up of the sum of the entities that define it (obesity, hypertension, dyslipidemias and non-alcoholic hepatic steatosis) has gained an important place in the research of the last decades. This aspect is mainly due to the complexity of management in pediatric practice. The main directions in his approach therefore bring together the concern of counteracting the noise or systemic, of the multiple intercurrents at the physiopathological level, as well as the negative imprint exerted on the quality of life.

Evaluation of epidemiological and pathological features of symptomatic spinal metastases in Romania - what could we learn from a retrospective study?

Metastases are the most common tumors of the spine. As an important increase in the annual incidence of spinal metastases (SMs) has been observed in the last decade, the aim of this study was to describe the epidemiology and histopathological types of SMs surgically treated in the Neurosurgery Clinics of a Regional Hospital in North-Eastern Romania over a period of five years, in order to define a certain tumor profile that would benefit from an early screening. We retrospectively evaluated 115 adult patients, searching for demographic data (gender and age of the patients), primary tumor characteristics (location and histological type), topography of the SMs, and the time interval between the diagnosis of the primary tumor and the surgery for the SMs.

Connective tissue represents the support matrix and the connection between tissues and organs. In its composition, collagen, the major structural protein, is the main component of the skin, bones, tendons and ligaments. Especially at the pediatric age, its damage in the context of pathologies such as systemic lupus erythematosus, scleroderma or dermatomyositis can have a significant negative impact on the development and optimal functioning of the body.

In 1949, it's been identified as a monogenic disease and was thought to primarily affect individuals of Northern European descent. It was the most prevalent autosomal recessive disease that shortens life.

Celiac disease - a pluripathological model in pediatric practice.

Being defined as an autoimmune, chronic pathology, frequently encountered in any age group, but especially in pediatrics, celiac disease (also called gluten enteropathy), is gaining more and more ground in terms of diagnosis, but also interest in research. The data from the literature of the last decades attest the chameleonic way of its presentation, there may be both classic onset symptoms and atypical symptoms. Given the impact played by celiac disease, especially in the optimal growth and development of children, the current narrative review aims to highlight the atypical presentation methods, intended to guide the clinician towards the inclusion of the pathology in the differential diagnosis scheme.

The role of vitamin D in pediatric systemic lupus erythematosus - a double pawn in the immune and microbial balance.

Having increased popularity during the Covid-19 pandemic, vitamin D3 is currently impressing thanks to the numerous researches aimed at its interactions with the body's homeostasis. At the same time, there is a peak in terms of recommendations for supplementation with it. Some of the studies focus on the link between autoimmune diseases and nutritional deficiencies, especially vitamin D3.

The Effects of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation in Patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) came into consideration in recent years as a promising, non-invasive form of neuromodulation for individuals suffering from mild cognitive impairment (MCI). MCI represents a transitional stage between normal cognitive aging and more severe cognitive decline, which appears in neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease. Numerous studies have shown that tDCS can have several useful effects in patients with MCI.

Thanatochemical Study of Glycated Hemoglobin in Diabetic Status Assessment.

In forensic medicine, the postmortem determination of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) helps identify undiagnosed cases of diabetes or cases with uncontrolled glycemic status. In order to contribute to the solidification of thanatochemistry, both globally and especially nationally, we aimed to determine this biomarker postmortem, for the first time in our institution, in order to identify undiagnosed pre-mortem diabetics, as well as those with inadequate glycemic control. Our research consisted of analyzing a total number of 180 HbA1c values, 90 determinations from the peripheral blood and 90 from the central blood.

Subdural hematoma - a cause of death in the development of a prostatic adenocarcinoma with dural metastases: case report.

Non-traumatic subdural hematoma secondary to dural metastases is a rare complication. Dural metastases from a prostate adenocarcinoma occur in the advanced stages of this pathology and may sometimes be the first manifestation of a prostate carcinoma. Less than 40 cases of subdural hematoma are reported in the literature as a consequence of dural metastases from a prostate adenocarcinoma.

Traffic accidents can have more or less dramatic consequences that involve penal and civil responsibility with amplitude extending over long periods of time. In many cases, substitution of the driver with the passenger in order to avoid criminal responsibility is often remarked. The substitution takes place with the passenger's agreement or, in cases with dramatic consequences (coma or death), without his/her consent.

[Study about the associated use of different types of drugs by high school students].

[Cardiovascular risk of haloperidol vs. atypical anti-psychotic drugs in schizophrenia treatment].

The present study examined the safety of the atypical antipsychotic drugs sertindol, olanzapine and quetiapine used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Haloperidol, a typical antipsychotic drug, was used for comparison. These data may account for the different therapeutic effects and side-effect profiles (cardiovascular risk) of typical and atypical antipsychotic drugs in schizophrenia.
