Treatment outcomes and risk factors for an unsuccessful outcome among patients with highly drug-resistant tuberculosis in Ukraine.

Objectives: To describe demographics, clinical features, and treatment outcomes of patients with highly drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) in Ukraine, and to evaluate risk factors for an unsuccessful outcome.

Methods: Data from patients with multi-, pre-extensively, or extensively drug-resistant TB were collected prospectively from TB dispensaries in 15 out of 24 Ukrainian oblasts (regions) from 2020 to 2021. Treatment outcomes were evaluated using WHO definitions.

Systemic mistakes in hand hygiene practice in Ukraine: detection, consequences and ways of elimination.

Aim: Every year, millions of people around the world suffer from different infectious diseases, considerable part of which are hospital-acquired infections. WHO considers hand hygiene as a priority measure aimed to reduce the level of infection. We evaluated various aspects related to the situational behavior and prioritization regarding hand hygiene measures among the healthcare workers of Ukraine.

[Correction of early liver dysfunction in patients with acute small bowel obstruction].

Conducted a comprehensive examination and surgical treatment for acute obstruction of the small intestine (SI). It is established that, both before and after surgery to restore patency of SI is a significant violation of the functional state of the liver. This became the basis for the appointment of antioxidant therapy in the complex standard treatment.

[Peculiarities of surface-active trehalose mycolates synthesis of Rhodococcus erythropolis EK-1].

It has been established that activity of trehalosephosphate synthase (key enzyme of trehalosemycolates synthesis) under cultivation of Rhodococcus erythropolis EK-1 on the medium with n-hexadecane was 10 times higher, and amount of synthesized surface-active substances 4 times higher as compared to the growing of EK-1 strain on ethanol. [Particularities of alkane oxidation in Rhodococcus erythropolis EK-1 strain--producer of surface-active substances].

The hexadecane oxidation of Rhodococcus erythropolls EK-1 was established to be catalyzed by the alkane hydroxylase complex containing Fe-S proteid rubredoxin. Alkane hydroxylase activity was increased twice in the presence of 10 mg/l iron ions in the cultivation medium. Sodium ions were shown to be an activator of alkane hydroxylase.

[An analysis of the manifestations of the side effects of low-frequency ultrasonic therapy in pulmonary tuberculosis patients].

It has been ascertained that employment of low-frequency ultrasound therapy in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis may provoke the appearance of such side effects as total and focal reactions. These side events are of temporary character, they are not considered to be contraindications to continuation of treatment with ultrasound. The focal reaction needs to be assessed x-ray carefully since its appearance can provoke aggravation of the specific process.

[The correlation of the hormonal and clinical effects in patients with prostatic cancer undergoing niftolid treatment in combination with low doses of synestrol].

Effects were studied of niftolide in tablets, 0.25 g on a three-times daily basis in combination with low doses of sinestrol, 5 mg intramuscularly within 24 h, on tumor growth, blood plasma content of luteinizing hormone (LH), testosterone (T) and testosterone-estradiol-binding globulin (TEBG) in 46 patients with prostate gland carcinoma, including seven patients with metastases. After treatment for three months, plasma T level decreased by 63%, that of LH by 53% whereas TEBG increased twice as much.
