View Article and Find Full Text PDFFor the first time, the composition and the content of the main components of the phenolic complex of aboveground organs of buckwheat plants (Fagopyrum esculentum Moench) with different levels of ploidy (2n and 4n) at the initial stages of ontogenesis and their changes under the action of cadmium (Cd, 65 µM) were studied by the method of high-performance liquid chromatography. In all variants, phenolic compounds (PCs) were represented by chlorogenic acid (phenylpropanoid), rutin (flavonol), as well as orientin, isoorientin, vitexin, and isovitexin (flavones). The amount of PCs in the cotyledon leaves in most cases exceeded that in the hypocotyls.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBiotechnological methods are widely used in modern common buckwheat ( Moench) studies, constitute an effective tool to create the best agronomic traits of the crop, and can also be used to breed forms, resistant to heavy metal ion toxicity, which is important in the environment of constantly growing anthropogenic pressure on ecosystems. The studied high concentrations of zinc salts (808-1313 mg L) in the nutrient medium in vitro had an inhibitory effect on buckwheat, which was manifested by a decrease in values of its morphological indicators. Ion stress had an adverse effect on 7-9% of plants from their total number, indicating high plasticity and resistance of to highly toxic doses of zinc.

The protocol methodology measured the hydrogen peroxide released after granulocytes activation by PMA (phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate) by using the Amplex Red assay, which included counting granulocytes by flow cytometer and measurement of the kinetic curve of NADPH oxidase activity by fluorometer. Two parameters were used to describe the level of granulocyte activity: the initial rate of NADPH-oxidase enzyme activity and the level of hydrogen peroxide released after 20 min of granulocyte activation.

We previously observed significant reduction in REE during a 4-week period in children undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The goal of this study was to determine if weekly REE measurements could accurately represent changes in REE in the peritransplant period compared with a more frequent standard of daily measurements.
