Importance: The effects of probiotic interventions on colonization with resistant bacteria and early microbiome development in preterm infants remain to be clarified.

Objective: To examine the efficacy of Bifidobacterium longum subsp infantis, Bifidobacterium animalis subsp lactis (BB-12), and Lactobacillus acidophilus (La-5) probiotics to prevent colonization with multidrug-resistant organisms or highly epidemic bacteria (MDRO+) and to shape the microbiome of preterm infants toward the eubiotic state of healthy full-term infants.

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic changed many social, economic, environmental, and healthcare determinants of health in New York City (NYC) and worldwide. Although most acute skin wounds heal rapidly, non-healing skin ulcers represent an increasing and substantial unmet medical need that urgently requires effective therapeutics. Keratinocytes resurface wounds to re-establish the epidermal barrier by transitioning to an activated, migratory state, but this ability is lost in dysfunctional chronic wounds. Small-molecule regulators of keratinocyte plasticity with the potential to reverse keratinocyte malfunction in situ could offer a novel therapeutic approach in skin wound healing.

Given the millions of people suffering from air pollution, filling the air quality monitoring gap in low- and middle-income countries has been recognized as a global challenge. To meet this challenge and make it work will require private enterprise, multiple levels of government, international organizations, academia and civil society to work together toward the common goal of characterizing, understanding better, and then reducing, the air pollution that causes sickness and preventable death for millions of people each year in lowand middle-income countries around the world. This article offers concrete next steps on how to make progress toward increasing air quality monitoring using a combination of emerging technologies, adaptation to country-specific conditions, and building capacity towards the development of lasting institutions.

RAS mutations lead to a constitutively active oncogenic protein that signals through multiple effector pathways. In this chemical biology study, we describe a novel coupled biochemical assay that measures activation of the effector BRAF by prenylated KRASG12V in a lipid-dependent manner. Using this assay, we discovered compounds that block biochemical and cellular functions of KRASG12V with low single-digit micromolar potency.

Traditional home care delivery involves executing tasks for clients within a limited timeframe. Five years ago, when surveys of clients of Toronto Central Community Care Access Centre (TC CCAC) showed the lowest client experience levels across the 14 CCACs in Ontario, TC CCAC and its contracted Service Provider Organizations developed and implemented Changing the Conversation, a philosophy and framework that focuses on asking clients "what is most important" to them and then using that information as the basis for how care is delivered. Changing the Conversation has made a measurable difference to clients' experiences and has now expanded to other parts of the province and the country.

For a wide range of proteins of high interest, the major obstacle for NMR studies is the lack of an affordable eukaryotic expression system for isotope labeling. Here, a simple and affordable protocol is presented to produce uniform labeled proteins in the most prevalent eukaryotic expression system for structural biology, namely Spodoptera frugiperda insect cells. Incorporation levels of 80% can be achieved for (15)N and (13)C with yields comparable to expression in full media.

The electrical and friction properties of ω-(trans-4-stilbene)alkylthiol self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on Au(111) were investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (NEXAFS). The sample surface was uniformly covered with a molecular film consisting of very small grains. Event-related spectral power (ERSP) was measured from intracranial EEG and used to characterize the time-course and localization of the Rolandic mu rhythms in 12 patients during the delayed recognition of words or faces (DR) and the discrimination of simple lateralized visual targets (LVD). On each trial, the subject decided whether to make manual response (Go) or not (NoGo). ERSP increased on both Go and NoGo trials in peri-Rolandic regions of all subjects with a peak latency of approximately 330-ms poststimulus and duration of 260 ms during the DR task.

Intracranial EEG was analyzed from 16 pharmaco-resistant epilepsy patients. Subjects participated in memory tasks for faces and/or words. Face-selective coherence increases were found between the fusiform gyrus and temporal, parietal, and frontal cortices at 160-230 ms poststimulus onset.
