With an increasing number of young patients surviving into adulthood after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), gonadal dysfunction becomes an important late effect with significant impact on quality of life. In this retrospective study, we evaluated the exposure of busulfan (Bu) and treosulfan (Treo) in relation to gonadal function in pediatric patients who underwent HSCT for a nonmalignant disease between 1997 and 2018. In the Bu group, 56 patients could be evaluated, and gonadal dysfunction was found in 35 (63%).

Endocrine complications are common after HSCT for malignant diseases, while little is known about long-term prevalence and risk factors in children transplanted for nonmalignant diseases. We retrospectively evaluated gonadal function, near adult height and thyroid function in 197 survivors of pediatric HSCT for hemoglobinopathies (n = 66), inborn errors of immunity/metabolism (n = 74) and bone marrow failure disorders (n = 57); median follow-up was 6.

It can, however, be difficult to diagnose IBD in the absence of symptoms or in the presence of aspecific gastrointestinal symptoms. A delay in diagnosis is a risk factor for lower adult height.

However, FNAIT may also lead to other severe bleeding problems. The aim was to analyze this spectrum and evaluate the occurrence of severe hemorrhages other than ICH in fetuses or neonates with FNAIT.

Methods: A retrospective file audit of patient files over three years (2006-2009) was conducted to determine risk factors associated with self-harm in children and adolescents admitted to a mental health unit. A checklist of potential factors was based on risk factors found in a review of the literature including demographic information, diagnosis, home situation, environmental stressors, childhood trauma and previous mental health care.
Objective: The aim of this paper is to describe trends in aggression and self harm on a mental health inpatient unit for children and adolescents between January 2006 and August 2009. Various ward interventions and the ward milieu were evaluated as possible explanatory factors for trends.
Method: This was a retrospective study whereby incidents of aggression, self harm and seclusion were obtained from a computerized Incident Information Management System (IIMS) database.
Hypothyroidism leads to a decreased activity of the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, which contributes to the hypercholesterolemia frequently seen during hypothyroidism. It is not known whether the decreased activity of the LDL receptor is directly due to the absence of thyroid hormone, or secondary to a deficiency of growth hormone (GH). Therefore, the effect of GH administration on LDL receptor activity was studied in hypothyroid rats.
