Indoor air quality can be adversely affected by emissions from building materials, consequently having a negative impact on human health and well-being. In this study, more than 30 natural building materials (earth dry boards and plasters, bio-based insulation materials, and boards made of wood, flax, reed, straw, etc.) used for interior works were investigated as to their emissions of (semi-)volatile organic compounds ((S)VOC), formaldehyde, and radon.

Objectives: To investigate rater agreement regarding measurements of height and width of the maxilla and mandible using cross-sectional images from CBCT examinations. Furthermore, to explore the association between vertical craniofacial height and alveolar bone morphology.

Methods: Pre-treatment CBCT scans from 450 patients referred for treatment to a private clinic for orthodontics and oral surgery in Scandinavia were available and of these, 180 were selected.

Background: The aim of the study was to evaluate a potential association between individuals with different craniofacial types or other exposures, and the risk of infraposition due to continued growth/eruption of adjacent teeth in the anterior maxilla.

Materials And Methods: This is a systematic review in which primary studies as well as other systematic reviews are scrutinised. A search of PubMed (Medline), Scopus, Web of science and Health technology assessment (HTA) organisations and a complementary handsearch was carried out.

Purpose: Patients who have a vertical growth pattern are more prone to complete alveolar bone growth later and run a higher risk for inhibition of growth and infraposition after implants have been placed. Moreover, it has been suggested for the same category of patients that craniofacial height may influence the alveolar bone morphology of the anterior maxilla during growth. Hence, it is important to identify such patients early when considering implant treatment in young patients.

The objective of the study was to assess the effect of prophylactic antibiotics on the outcome of bone augmentation and subsequent dental implant placement by combining the recommended quality assessment methods for systematic reviews and primary studies. This is a complex systematic review in which systematic reviews as well as primary studies are scrutinised. A search of Medline (OVID), The Cochrane Library (Wiley) and EMBASE, PubMed and Health technology assessment (HTA) organisations as-well as a complementary hand-search was carried out.

The Board of EAO (European Association for Osseointegration) has discussed an initiative to explore the conditions to establish a Dental Implant Register. It was suggested to bring this issue to the EAO Consensus Conference 2018 for a discussion and to possibly propose relevant and manageable parameters. This article presents some select examples from quality registers in the medical field.

When celebrating 100 yr of dental research in the Nordic dental research community (i.e. Nordisk Odontologisk Förening (NOF)), it is relevant to include dental implant treatment.

Objective: It has been documented that heart transplantation in children is often complicated by arterial hypertension and increased arterial stiffness. We use innovative multi-site photoplethysmography (MPPG) pulse measurement and analysis technology to assess changes in arterial stiffness in paediatric heart transplant recipients (HTRs) in comparison with healthy control (HC) children.

Approach: A group of 20 HTRs (median age 13.

Objective: In orthognathic surgery, antibiotics are prescribed to reduce the risk of postoperative infection. However, there is lack of consensus over the appropriate drug, the dose and duration of administration. The aim of this complex systematic review was to assess the effect of antibiotics on postoperative infections in orthognathic surgery.

Clinical reasoning, comprising the processes of clinical thinking, which form the basis of medical decisions, constitutes a central competence in the clinical routine on which diagnostic and therapeutic steps are based. In medical curricula in Germany, clinical reasoning is currently taught explicitly only to a small extend. Therefore, the aim of this project was to develop and implement a clinical reasoning course in the final year of undergraduate medical training.

Background: In order to gain a better understanding of how growth of the alveolar bone is linked to the vertical development of the face, the purpose of this study was to investigate if there is an association between the cross-sectional morphology of the maxillary and mandibular bodies with the craniofacial height, using images from cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Methods: From 450 pre-treatment CBCT scans, 180 were selected to be included in the study. Lateral head images were generated from the CBCT scans and were used to categorise subjects into three groups based on their vertical craniofacial height.

The amount of masking of sounds from one source (signals) by sounds from a competing source (maskers) heavily depends on the sound characteristics of the masker and the signal and on their relative spatial location. Numerous studies investigated the ability to detect a signal in a speech or a noise masker or the effect of spatial separation of signal and masker on the amount of masking, but there is a lack of studies investigating the combined effects of many cues on the masking as is typical for natural listening situations. The current study using free-field listening systematically evaluates the combined effects of harmonicity and inharmonicity cues in multi-tone maskers and cues resulting from spatial separation of target signal and masker on the detection of a pure tone in a multi-tone or a noise masker.

Metformin is the oral drug of first choice in type 2 diabetes. Therefore a large number of patients undergoing bariatric surgery will be on Metformin treatment. However, use of Metformin has been associated with lactate acidosis.

Aims/hypothesis: The primary aim of this study was to compare the results of HbA(1c) measurements with those of an OGTT for early diagnosis of 'silent diabetes' in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) undergoing angiography without prediagnosed diabetes. A secondary aim was to investigate the correlation between the extent of CAD and the glycaemic status of the patient.

Methods: Data from 1,015 patients admitted for acute (n = 149) or elective (n = 866) coronary angiography were analysed.

By applying a Go/NoGo paradigm, thresholds for detecting mistuning of components of a 200 Hz complex were determined in the Mongolian gerbil and compared with thresholds obtained in a previous study with an 800 Hz complex. Frequency difference limens (FDLs) for detecting mistuning decreased with increasing harmonic frequency and harmonic number (0.5% to 0.

Frequency difference limens (FDLs) for pure tones between 200 and 6400 Hz and for the first, the second, or the eighth harmonic of an 800 Hz complex in four Mongolian gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus) were determined using a Go/NoGo-procedure. The 12 harmonics of the complex started either in sine phase or at a random phase. Gerbils showed very high pure tone FDLs ranging from 17.

Background: Arterial hypertension and premature coronary artery disease are poorly understood complications of cardiac transplantation in children. Arterial stiffness is associated with cardiovascular risk in adults. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) may be used as a surrogate for arterial rigidity.

Aim: Premixed insulin regimens are commonly used for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. However, there is limited information regarding next-step therapy options in cases where premixed insulin does not provide adequate glycaemic control. This 12-week observational study of everyday clinical practice evaluated the efficacy and safety of insulin glargine (glargine) plus oral antidiabetic drugs (OADs) in T2DM patients previously treated with premixed insulin.

The regulation of the activity of the approximately 30 pS nonselective cation channel (NSC channel) was studied by the patch-clamp technique in inside-out patches obtained from rat brown-fat cells. NSC channel activity was induced by excision; reduced redox state induced by dithiothreitol accelerated the kinetics in the excised state. The NSC channels were inhibited by the fenamates flufenamic acid and mefenamic acid but not by NS-1619 or SKF-96365.
