Introduction: Nursing home (NH) residents with limited life expectancy (LLE) who are intensely treated for hyperlipidemia, hypertension, or diabetes may benefit from deprescribing.

Objective: Matrix-associated chondrocyte transplantation is routinely used in joints of the extremities but not in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

Study Design: We report the first case series in 7 patients of a tissue engineering approach to regenerate severely degraded articulating surfaces in the TMJ by simultaneously completely resurfacing both the mandibular condyle and the articular eminence/glenoid fossa with a commercially available collagen sponge seeded with autologous cells stabilized within a fibrin matrix. To facilitate healing, we temporarily employed a silicone membrane to protect the engineered tissues.

The scaphoid is the most frequently fractured carpal bone and prone to non-union due to mechanical and biological factors. Whereas the importance of stability is well documented, the evaluation of biological activity is mostly limited to the assessment of vascularity. The results of some studies suggest that the serotonin transporter-linked polymorphic region (5-HTTLPR) short (S) allele, relative to the long (L) allele, is associated with risk for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD), and thus serves as biomarker for those disorders, while results from other studies do not support that conclusion. Persons with an S allele demonstrate a 2- to 2.5 fold decrease in serotonin transcription rate compared to the L-allele, which may increase their risk for MDD.

Purpose: To evaluate the cellular survival of donor fibroblasts after transplantation at the vesico-ureteral junction (VUJ) and to analyse their potential for reconstructive cell replacement in an animal model as autologous fibroblasts have been used as soft tissue augmentation material for scared and damaged tissue.

Methods: Muscles biopsies were procured from the lower limb muscles of 4 pigs; cytoplasm of fibroblasts was labelled with nano-sized iron oxide particles. Six weeks after taking of the muscle biopsies, fibroblast transplantation was performed, 3 × 10(6) cells suspended in transplantation medium (in 1-ml syringes) were injected at the VUJ using the modified STING technique.

This research reports on satisfaction with the introduction of an electronic document management system in a tertiary hospital environment. A buffet of training and familiarization options were offered: one-on-one training, open house, drop-in, e-learning, classroom training, and self-study. It was found that professions differ in their pattern of satisfaction with training and they also differ in their satisfaction with both the usefulness and the ease of use of the system.

Objective: Although hypertension is the most prevalent risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular morbidity and mortality, the level of blood pressure control remains poor. To amplify quality of care in hypertensive patients, a multifaceted program consisting of structured educational programs for both patients and staff, structured documentation and feedback reports with peer comparison, was implemented on a multicentre basis. Main targets were improvement of blood pressure control and reduction of cardiovascular risk.
