Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to enhance decision-making for managing ectopic pregnancy (EP) using a machine learning model.
  • It analyzed data from stable patients with ampullar EP from 2014 to 2022, employing a Decision Tree Classifier that achieved 89% accuracy and high metrics for predicting treatment success.
  • The findings suggest that this model could be a useful tool in clinical settings to predict the outcomes of expectant management based on specific clinical factors.

Objectives: To evaluate pain perception and analgesic use between patients who underwent endometriosis-specific laparoscopic surgery compared to laparoscopic hysterectomy.

Material And Methods: This retrospective cohort study included women diagnosed with endometriosis who underwent laparoscopic surgery from 1/2019 to 11/2022. The control group consisted of premenopausal women who underwent laparoscopic hysterectomy, which was considered a similarly extensive surgery.

Objective: This study aimed to compare duration of medication abortion after pretreatment with mifepristone versus misoprostol-only regimens at 22 + 0/7 to 30 + 0/7 weeks.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients admitted for medication abortion from 2014 to 2022. Patients underwent feticide due to genetic or anatomical abnormalities at gestational age of 22 + 0/7 to 30 + 0/7 weeks.

Omics techniques generate comprehensive profiles of biomolecules in cells and tissues. However, a holistic understanding of underlying systems requires joint analyses of multiple data modalities. We present DPM, a data fusion method for integrating omics datasets using directionality and significance estimates of genes, transcripts, or proteins.

Article Synopsis
  • Women with endometriosis experience altered pain perceptions, leading to different pain management needs after cesarean delivery (CD).
  • A study compared post-operative pain scores and analgesic use between women with and without endometriosis, finding that those with endometriosis required higher doses of pain medication on the first post-operative day.
  • Despite increased analgesic use in the endometriosis group, their pain intensity, measured on a visual analogue scale, did not differ significantly from the control group.

Objectives: To assess the characteristics of patients with unilateral and bilateral tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA).

Methods: Women diagnosed with TOA during 2003-2017 were included in this retrospective cohort study. TOA was diagnosed using sonography or computerized tomography and clinical criteria, or by surgical diagnosis.

Purpose: This study evaluated the differences in treatment outcomes between misoprostol and surgical evacuation for the management of incomplete abortion.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study compared patients with a clinical diagnosis of incomplete abortion who underwent surgical or pharmaceutical (misoprostol) intervention, 2014-2017. Demographics, sonographic results, treatment follow-up, and post-intervention data on retained products of conception were retrieved.

Objective: Postpartum retained products of conception (RPOC) can cause short- and long-term complications. Diagnosis is based on ultrasound examination and treated with hysteroscopy. This study evaluated the size of RPOC that can be related to a positive pathology result for residua.

Gill nets are a common sampling technique in inland and marine fisheries. However, gill nets are size selective and may result in bias estimates of population parameters. As such, selectivity is commonly assessed using indirect estimation techniques.

Background: Deficits in threat learning relate to anxiety symptoms. Since several anxiety disorders arise in adolescence, impaired adolescent threat learning could contribute to adolescent changes in risk for anxiety. This study compared threat learning among anxious and non-anxious youth using self-reports, peripheral psychophysiology measures, and event-related potentials.

Study Objective: To create a decision support tool based on machine learning algorithms and natural language processing (NLP) technology, to augment clinicians' ability to predict cases of suspected adnexal torsion.

Design: Retrospective cohort study SETTING: Gynecology department, university-affiliated teaching medical center, 2014-2022.

Patients: This study assessed risk-factors for adnexal torsion among women managed surgically for suspected adnexal torsion based on clinical and sonographic data.

Objective: Uterine size is one of the essential factors determining the feasibility of a minimally invasive gynecologic surgery approach. A traditional electromechanical morcellator is a well-known tool but not without flaws. We aim to assess feasibility and safety of a novel intrauterine power morcellation device for uterine size reduction to overcome these limitations during hysterectomy.

Objective: Isolated posterior prolapse is a unique entity that was previously linked to chronic obstructive defecation. Our objective is to evaluate the relationship of low adherence to a Mediterranean diet (LAMD) with bowel dysfunction and isolated posterior compartment prolapse (IPCP).

Methods: This multicenter, cross-sectional study compared the dietary outcomes (validated Mediterranean diet [MD] questionnaire) of women who underwent pelvic organ prolapse (POP) repair surgery between August 2020 and October 2021.

Rationale: The present work shows comprehensive chromatographic methods and MS conditions that have been developed based on the chemical properties of each lipid subclass to detect low-abundance molecular species. This study shows that the developed methods can detect low- and/or very-low-abundant lipids like phosphatidic acid (PA) in the glycerophospholipid (GP) method; dihydroceramide (dhCer) and dihydrosphingosine/sphinganine (dhSPB) in the sphingolipid (SP) method; and lysophosphatidic acid (LPA), LPI, LPG and sphingosine-1-phosphate (SPBP) in the lysolipid method.

Methods: An optimised method for the extraction of lysolipids in plasma is used in addition to Folch extraction.

Objective: To study mesh exposure rates among obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m) vs non-obese women after mid-urethral sling (MUS) operation.

Study Design: This retrospective cohort study included all patients who underwent MUS surgery for stress urinary incontinence April 2014-April 2021 in a tertiary-level university hospital. Data from obese and non-obese patients were compared.

Objective: Obesity is a key factor for stress urinary incontinence. Our aim was to evaluate the long-term, subjective surgical satisfaction rate among obese (BMI ≥ 30) women after mid-urethral sling (MUS) procedure in a tertiary-level university hospital.

Study Design: This retrospective, case-control study compared the outcomes of obese and non-obese patients who underwent MUS surgery for stress urinary incontinence (SUI), March 2014-January 2020.

This study examined associations between anxiety symptomatology and cognitive and physiological threat responses during threat learning in a large sample of children and adolescents. Anxiety symptomatology severity along different dimensions (generalized anxiety, separation anxiety, social anxiety, and panic symptoms) was measured using parental and self-reports. Participants completed differential threat acquisition and extinction using an age-appropriate threat conditioning task.

This study examined developmental differences in contextual and perceptual generalization of fear and avoidance learning. Adults (N = 39) and adolescents (N = 44) completed differential fear acquisition wherein each conditional stimulus (CS) appeared in a background context. In the dangerous context, one stimulus (CS+) predicted an aversive sound, and the other stimulus (CS-) did not.

Introduction: Missed abortion can be treated with medication or aspiration curettage. A Karman aspiration cannula is another option. We evaluated its success in evacuating retained products of conception (RPOC) based on symptoms, endometrial thickness, endometrial irregularity, and blood flow seen on Doppler ultrasound (indicative of placenta).

Objective: COVID-19 pandemic caused a dramatic decline in the gynecology emergency department (ED) visits. The Israeli government took a determined step of quarantine to suppress and control the spread. This study evaluates the effect of the COVID -19 quarantine on gynecology emergency department (ED) visits compared to the previous year.

Introduction: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the upper genital organs, diagnosed by clinical findings. The nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) identify sexually transmitted (STD) pathogens from endocervical swabs, via real time PCR. This study explored the prevalence of STD detected by NAAT for women with PID.
