Bacterial behavior has been studied under microgravity conditions, but very little is known about it under lunar and Martian gravitational regimes. An Earth-based approach was designed and implemented using inclined clinostats and an in-house-developed code to determine the optimal clinorotation angular speed for bacterial liquid cultures of 5 RPM. With this setup, growth dynamics, phenotypic changes, and sensitivity to antibiotics (minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of two different classes of antibiotics) for three strains (including uropathogenic) were examined under simulated micro-, lunar, and Martian gravities.

Quantum computers built with superconducting artificial atoms already stretch the limits of their classical counterparts. While the lowest energy states of these artificial atoms serve as the qubit basis, the higher levels are responsible for both a host of attractive gate schemes as well as generating undesired interactions. Crescentic glomerulonephritis (cGN) is the most aggressive form of glomerulonephritis in humans. A widely studied mouse model is induced by sheep or rabbit antisera raised against murine renal cortical antigens. We here, report that Alpaca readily produce ample amounts of antisera that induces pathology in mice, resembling human disease regarding crescent formation, proteinuria, infiltrating immune cells and a significant Th1, but not Th17 immune response.

Improving two-qubit gate performance and suppressing cross talk are major, but often competing, challenges to achieving scalable quantum computation. Alternative reality (XR) technologies, including physical, augmented, hybrid, and virtual reality, offer ways for engineered spaces to be evaluated. We report a general protocol for the direct C-H etherification of -heteroarenes. Potassium -butoxide catalyzes halogen transfer from 2-halothiophenes to -heteroarenes to form -heteroaryl halide intermediates that undergo tandem base-promoted alcohol substitution. Thus, the simple inclusion of inexpensive 2-halothiophenes enables regioselective oxidative coupling of alcohols with 1,3-azoles, pyridines, diazines, and polyazines under basic reaction conditions.

Objectives: Using high-quality data from Germany, this study aims to contribute to the yet little knowledge about possible changes in adult parent-child relationships within countries over time.

Method: Analyzing 13,106 interviews from four rounds of the German Ageing Survey (DEAS), covering the period 1996-2014, we monitor stability and change in four dimensions of adult parent-child relationships, namely geographic proximity, frequency of contact, emotional closeness, and exchange of support.

Results: We observed a continuous decrease in parent-child geographic proximity between 1996 and 2008, but no further increase in distance thereafter.

Background:: Distal chevron metatarsal osteotomy bunionectomy is a commonly performed procedure for the treatment of mild to moderate hallux valgus. We continue to use the intraosseous sliding osteotomy plate system for fixation of the distal metatarsal osteotomy. Bacteria grown in space experiments under microgravity conditions have been found to undergo unique physiological responses, ranging from modified cell morphology and growth dynamics to a putative increased tolerance to antibiotics. A common theory for this behavior is the loss of gravity-driven convection processes in the orbital environment, resulting in both reduction of extracellular nutrient availability and the accumulation of bacterial byproducts near the cell.
