Purpose: To assess the association between benign ovarian tumors and subsequent risk of breast cancer, and to examine this association according to type of benign ovarian tumors.
Methods: This nationwide cohort study comprised all Danish women diagnosed with a benign ovarian tumor during 1978-2016 (n = 158,221) identified through the Danish National Patient Register. The cohort was linked to the Danish Cancer Registry to identify all cases of breast cancer, and standardized incidence ratios (SIR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated.
Although risk factors have been established for the development of serous carcinoma after a diagnosis of serous borderline tumor (SBT), comprising atypical proliferative serous tumor (APST) (ie, conventional SBT) and noninvasive low-grade serous carcinoma (niLGSC) (ie, micropapillary SBT), subsequent invasive carcinoma still occurs in a subset of women who are not at increased risk. Whether subsequent serous carcinoma in women with a prior SBT represents malignant progression/recurrence or an independent primary tumor is unclear, and the combined clinicopathologic and molecular features of SBTs and their subsequent carcinomas have not been fully characterized. In this study, we analyzed a cohort of 42 women initially diagnosed with SBT who subsequently developed serous carcinoma of a total of 1025 cases of ovarian SBT from a nationwide population-based cohort.

We identified all first-time RTRs in Denmark during 1990-2015 in a nationwide nephrology register. For each RTR, we randomly selected 50 age- and sex-matched non-RTRs from the background population.

Preclinical and observational studies have reported antineoplastic effects of nonaspirin nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), but studies of nonaspirin NSAID use and risk of HNC are sparse and with inconsistent results. We therefore conducted a register-based case-control study nested in the entire Danish population.

Objectives: Individuals with genital warts may be particularly susceptible to human papillomavirus since they have failed to clear the virus. Consequently, women with genital warts could be at increased risk of cervical dysplasia. In this cohort study we aimed to compare the incidence of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 2 or worse (CIN2+) in women with a diagnosis of genital warts with that of the general female population without genital warts.

Methods: Using a population-based cohort of 25,436 Danish, cancer-free men aged 50-64 years, we obtained information on self-reported pre-cancer lifestyle, objectively measured anthropometry and cardiovascular risk factors, and linked them to national health registers for information on major cardiovascular outcomes. We assessed hazard ratios (HRs) of incident acute myocardial infarction (MI), ischaemic stroke (IS) and heart failure (HF) among 1546 men diagnosed with PCa treated with first-line active surveillance, watchful waiting, intended curative or palliative treatment compared with PCa-free men during 18 years of follow-up.
Objective: Nine-valent human papillomavirus (9vHPV) vaccine efficacy against disease and cervical surgeries related to all nine vaccine components was assessed compared with a historic placebo population. This was not assessed in the 9vHPV vaccine efficacy trial since the trial was quadrivalent HPV (qHPV) vaccine-controlled, efficacy was measured for the five HPV types covered only by 9vHPV vaccine (HPV31/33/45/52/58), but not the four types covered by both vaccines (HPV6/11/16/18).
Methods: Three international, randomized, double-blind studies were conducted using the same methodology.
Objective: Little is known about long-term risk of depression in women treated for gynecological cancers. We aim to investigate risk for depression among these women compared to women without a history of cancer.
Methods: We followed 16,833 women diagnosed with gynecological cancers between 1998 and 2013 and 138,888 reference women in nationwide registers for up to 19 years.
Study Question: Is the risk of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) increased in children conceived after fertility treatment, and is an observed association caused by specific types of fertility treatment or by factors associated with the underlying infertility?
Summary Answer: The risk of JIA in children conceived after fertility treatment (any and specific types of fertility treatment) was not convincingly affected when compared with children born to fertile women.
What Is Known Already: It has been suggested that fertility treatment may affect the development of the immune system and thereby increase the risk of developing autoimmune diseases, including JIA.
Study Design, Size, Duration: This retrospective population-based cohort study included all live-born children in Denmark between 1 January 1996 and 31 December 2012 (n = 1 084 184).
Objective: To study whether infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV), registered both as a single HPV positive test and as HPV persistence, increases the risk of female factor infertility in later reproductive life.
Design: Population-based cohort study.
Setting: Not applicable.
Purpose: Previous epidemiologic studies have shown that smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity are associated with poor survival following a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Yet, the combined relationship of these unfavorable lifestyle factors on ovarian cancer survival has not been sufficiently investigated.
Methods: Using data pooled from 13 studies, we examined the associations between combined exposures to smoking, overweight/obesity weight, and physical inactivity and overall survival (OS) as well as progression-free survival (PFS) among women diagnosed with invasive epithelial ovarian carcinoma (n = 7,022).
Background: A reduced, 2-dose schedule of human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination has been endorsed for preadolescent women on the basis of immunogenicity data from randomized trials, and limited data suggest that even 1 dose may provide sufficient protection. Surveillance of the impact of <3 vaccine doses on clinical endpoints in the targeted age group is warranted.
Methods: We conducted a nationwide cohort study of all women aged 17-25 years, living in Denmark between 2006 and 2016.
The elaboration of polarity is central to organismal development and to the maintenance of functional epithelia. Among the controls determining polarity are the PAR proteins, PAR6, aPKCι and PAR3, regulating both known and unknown effectors. Here, we identify FARP2 as a 'RIPR' motif-dependent partner and substrate of aPKCι that is required for efficient polarisation and junction formation.

Furthermore, we assessed whether differences in screening participation between immigrants and Danish-born women were explained by sociodemographic or health-related characteristics, and examined predictors of participation among immigrants. Using high-quality registries, we identified women invited for cervical cancer screening during 2008-2009 and retrieved individual-level data on sociodemographic-, health- and immigration-related characteristics.

We investigated the association between education as an indicator for socioeconomic position and cardiovascular events after prostate cancer and if such associations were mediated by differences in lifestyle, cardiovascular risk factors and prostate cancer treatment. We identified 1980 men diagnosed with prostate cancer from 1993 to 2014 among participants in the Danish Diet, Cancer and Health study.

The risk of depression is inversely associated with socioeconomic position in the general population; however, studies on the association in cancer populations are limited. The aim was to investigate if shorter education was associated with a higher risk of depression following prostate cancer diagnosis. This is a cohort study among participants in the Danish prospective Diet, Cancer and Health (DCH) study including 2337 men diagnosed with prostate cancer between 1997 and 2014.

Quantifying the genetic correlation between cancers can provide important insights into the mechanisms driving cancer etiology. Using genome-wide association study summary statistics across six cancer types based on a total of 296,215 cases and 301,319 controls of European ancestry, here we estimate the pair-wise genetic correlations between breast, colorectal, head/neck, lung, ovary and prostate cancer, and between cancers and 38 other diseases. We observed statistically significant genetic correlations between lung and head/neck cancer (r = 0.

In four countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Iceland), we collected consecutive series of cervical cancers (n = 639) and high-grade precancerous cervical lesions (n = 1240) during 2004-2006 before implementation of HPV vaccination and subjected the specimens to standardized HPV genotyping. The HPV prevalence was 82.
