Molasses of tangerine orange (Citrus unshiu Markovich) is obtained as a waste product in the course of tangerine orange juice production. This molasses is expected to be a useful source of organic compounds such as flavonoids and limonoids. To elucidate a use for this molasses waste, we isolated and identified its organic constituents.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effects of Brazilian propolis on scratching behavior in ICR mice, finding that propolis granular A.P.C significantly reduced scratching caused by compound 48/80 at high doses, but did not affect histamine-induced scratching.
  • Propolis ethanol extract effectively inhibited histamine release from rat mast cells and blocked increased vascular permeability linked to compound 48/80.
  • Repeated administration of propolis led to enhanced inhibition of scratching behavior, suggesting its effectiveness relies on a mast cell-dependent mechanism.

Article Synopsis
  • * The analysis revealed a specific sugar structure on the glycoprotein, linking various sugar components together.
  • * This study is significant because it marks the first time an insect glycoprotein with a beta1-3 galactosylated N-glycan has been identified.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the impact of propolis granular A. P. C on lung tumors in female A/J mice, which were exposed to a tobacco-related carcinogen called NNK.
  • Mice received NNK in their drinking water for 7 weeks while being fed a specific diet, and propolis A. P. C was given orally for 6 days a week beginning a week before NNK exposure.
  • Results showed that mice treated with NNK alone had significantly more lung tumors compared to controls, but those given propolis A. P. C exhibited a notable decrease in tumor count, suggesting its potential as a suppressor of lung tumor development.
