We report a unique case of renal cholesterol crystal embolism (CCE) induced by carotid artery stenting that was successfully treated with evolocumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody against proprotein convertase subtilisin kexin type 9 (PCSK9). A 77-year-old man with hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and chronic kidney disease was referred to our department for decreased estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR)-from 32.0 to 13.

Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate different intensities of uremic pruritus in the daytime and nighttime, as well as contributing factors, in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD).
Methods: A total of 46 patients (31 males, 15 females) with a mean age of 59.4±14.
The quantum size effect of CdTe quantum dots (QDs) has been one of the targets of extensive research concerning the optical spectroscopy of semiconductors, but little is known about their effects on electrochemiluminescence (ECL) behavior, especially in the anodic potential range. In this present study, water-soluble CdTe QDs with different sizes were synthesized with a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. Upon electrochemical oxidation of the CdTe QD in the presence of tri-n-propylamine (TPrA) as a coreactant, two ECL signals, called ECL and ECL, were observed at potentials corresponding to the oxidation of TPrA (at +0.

However, a conclusion has not been reached concerning the prevalence and the effect of carnitine deficiency in patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD). In this study, the prevalence of carnitine deficiency and the clinical factors associated with carnitine deficiency were investigated in 60 patients undergoing PD.

Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of the number of physical therapy (PT) sessions on clinical outcomes of patients with LSS.
Summary Of Background Data: Supervised PT for patients with LSS has been reported to lead to better short-term outcomes in terms of disability and leg pain than unsupervised exercise.
A 61-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with fever and massive leukocytosis. A bone marrow smear revealed an increased density of myeloid cells in various stages of maturation as well as dysplasia in the neutrophils. There was no proliferation of blasts, eosinophils, or basophils.

We aimed to (1) determine the reference values of LVLAVR, (2) investigate their age and gender dependency, and (3) clarify which anthropometric and echocardiography parameters are closely associated with these indices. Both left ventricular (LV) and left atrial (LA) volume curves were obtained using 3DE speckle tracking analytical software, and the LVLAVR curve throughout one cardiac cycle was created, from which LVLAVR at ventricular end-diastole and at ventricular end-systole were determined in 313 healthy subjects (age, 20-85 years; 51% men).

Methods: A total of 134 patients who underwent mechanical thrombectomy in our hospital between April 2015 and January 2019 were retrospectively evaluated.
Background: Proteinase 3-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody has been reported to be positive in 5-10% of cases of renal injury complicated by infective endocarditis; however, histological findings have rarely been reported for these cases.
Case Presentation: A 71-year-old Japanese man with a history of aortic valve replacement developed rapidly progressive renal dysfunction with gross hematuria and proteinuria. Blood analysis showed a high proteinase 3-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (163 IU/ml) titer.
A 76-year-old woman on hemodialysis (HD) for diabetic nephropathy was admitted to our hospital with occasional intradialytic hypotension (IDH). We continuously monitored the regional oxygen saturation (rSO) in the brain, liver, and lower limb muscle during HD. The time course of changes in rSO ratios in each region was evaluated throughout HD.

Vancomycin is recommended for treating severe infections caused by Gram-positive cocci, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. However, renal damage often occurs as a side effect because vancomycin is mainly excreted via the kidneys. The mechanism of vancomycin-associated nephrotoxicity is thought to involve the elevation of oxidative stress in the kidneys.

There are many variations in branching and running of pulmonary artery (PA) and pulmonary vein (PV). It is desirable to separate as a surgical simulation of lung cancer and important to grasp before video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) to perform quick and safe. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate objective and subjective image quality (contrast attenuation, separation ability, and vascular visualization) of PA and PV of splitbolus single-phase protocol (SBSPP) in preoperative three-dimensional computed tomography angiography (3DCTA).

Whereas leaves of rice (Oryza sativa) cultivar Nipponbare predominantly accumulated the phytoalexin sakuranetin after jasmonic acid induction, only very low amounts accumulated in the Kasalath cultivar. Sakuranetin is synthesized from naringenin by naringenin 7-O-methyltransferase (NOMT).

17β-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases (17β-HSDs) catalyze the reduction of 17-ketosteroids and the oxidation of 17β-hydroxysteroids to regulate the production of androgens and estrogens. Among them, 17β-HSD type 3 (HSD17B3) is expressed almost exclusively in testicular Leydig cells and contributes to development of male sexual characteristics by converting androstenedione (A4) to testosterone (T). Mutations of HSD17B3 genes cause a 46,XY disorder of sexual development (46,XY DSD) as a result of low T production.

With conflicting information and a lack of quantification of the benefits and risks of the HPV vaccine, parents have been hindered in making their decision. We quantified the benefits and risks of the HPV vaccine in terms of quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs), to help their informed decision.

However, the precise role of ALDH activity in patient prognosis remains unclear. In this study, using the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) RNA-sequencing expression data, we analyzed gene expression of ALDH isozymes in melanoma tumors to define the expression patterns and the prognostic and predictive values of these enzymes.

Methods And Results: RV volumes and the RV ejection fraction (RVEF) were measured using a fully automated software (Philips), a semi-automated software (TomTec), and CMR in 100 patients who had undergone both CMR and 3DE examinations on the same day. The feasibility of the fully automated software was 91%.
The gene (Locus: DFNB22) is reported to be one of the causative genes for non-syndromic autosomal recessive hearing loss. The copy number variations (CNVs) identified in this gene are also known to cause hearing loss, but have not been identified in Japanese patients with hearing loss. Furthermore, the clinical features of -associated hearing loss have not yet been clarified.

Methods And Results: We retrospectively selected 84 patients who underwent CMR and 2DE on the same day. Novel 2DE layer strain software automatically provides LV contour in 3 myocardial layers and performs layer specific speckle tracking analysis, which calculates LV volumes, ejection fraction (LVEF), and global longitudinal strain (GLS) in each layer.
