Background: For patients with small-size colorectal liver metastases, growing evidence suggests thermal ablation to be associated with fewer adverse events and faster recovery than resection while also challenging resection in terms of local control and overall survival. This study assessed the potential non-inferiority of thermal ablation compared with surgical resection in patients with small-size resectable colorectal liver metastases.
Methods: Adult patients (aged ≥18 years) from 14 centres in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy with ten or fewer small-size (≤3 cm) colorectal liver metastases, no extrahepatic metastases, and an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status of 0-2, were stratified per centre, and according to their disease burden, into low, intermediate, and high disease burden subgroups and randomly assigned 1:1 to receive either thermal ablation (experimental group) or surgical resection (control group) of all target colorectal liver metastases using the web-based module Castor electronic data capture with variable block sizes of 4, 6, and 8.
Background: This study aimed to explore the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting changes to diabetes care, especially concerning disease control, the use of (tele)consultation and lessons worth implementing to improve diabetes care, with a specific focus on ethnic minority groups.
Methods: A mixed-methods prospective cohort study among people with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) treated in primary care during the COVID-19 pandemic. A survey was sent regionally, including items related to teleconsultation and amount of contact with the healthcare professional.
Following the discovery of the CRISPR-Cas technology in 2012, there has been a growing global call for public engagement regarding the potential use of human germline gene editing (HGGE). In this systematic scoping review, we aim to evaluate public engagement studies considering the following questions based on three points of attention: 1) Inclusion of underrepresented groups: who have been engaged? 2) Gathering values: what output has been reported? 3) Reaching societal impact: what objectives of public engagement have been reported? A systematic literature search from 2012 to 2023 identified 3464 articles reporting on public engagement studies regarding HGGE retrieved from 12 databases. After screening, 52 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility, resulting in 36 articles that cover 31 public engagement studies.

The SCORE2-Diabetes model is a tool designed to estimate the 10-year risk of CVE specifically in individuals with type 2 diabetes. However, the performance of such models may vary across different demographic and socioeconomic groups, necessitating validation and assessment in diverse populations.

The aim of this study was to evaluate possible differences in the development and progression of albuminuria in South Asians and Western Europeans (WE) with type 2 diabetes in a large closed cohort of South Asians with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: Data on 1269 South Asians and 2272 Dutch adults with type 2 diabetes who were treated in our diabetes clinic in 2006 or referred thereafter were extracted from electronic medical records.
We provide commentary on the paper by You et al., which proposed the 'serosal invasion sign' as a new criterion for T4a gastric cancer on CT. We clarify the anatomical relationship between the perigastric vessels and the serosa, correcting for an anatomical oversight in the original figures.

This study explores the associations between the gut microbiota composition and the Research Domain Criteria (RDoC) domains of functioning, representing symptom domains, specifically focusing on stress-related and neurodevelopmental disorders in patients with and without psychiatric comorbidity.
Methods: The gut microbiota was analyzed in 369 participants, comprising 272 individuals diagnosed with a mood disorder, anxiety disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and/or substance use disorder, as well as 97 psychiatrically unaffected individuals.
Aims: The 2021 European Society of Cardiology prevention guidelines recommend the use of (lifetime) risk prediction models to aid decisions regarding initiation of prevention. We aimed to update and systematically recalibrate the LIFEtime-perspective CardioVascular Disease (LIFE-CVD) model to four European risk regions for the estimation of lifetime CVD risk for apparently healthy individuals.
Methods And Results: The updated LIFE-CVD (i.
Ribonucleic acids (RNAs) are key biomolecules responsible for the transmission of genetic information, the synthesis of proteins, and modulation of many biochemical processes. They are also often the key components of viruses. Synthetic RNAs or oligoribonucleotides are becoming more widely used as therapeutics.

The risk of eventually developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) and/or type 2 diabetes (T2D) increases three to seven times, after pre-eclampsia, hypertension gravidarum or gestational diabetes. The Heart for Women in The Hague project was designed to offer targeted screening to this high-risk population.

There is overlap in symptomatology between MDD and ADHD that complicates diagnostics and treatment selection. Hence, to aid diagnostics of single and comorbid disorders, we aimed to examine the discriminative power of common symptom measures and cognitive dysfunction to differentiate between participants diagnosed with MDD, ADHD, ADHD and comorbid MDD and without a mental disorder.

We investigated whether addition of these factors would improve the performance of prediction models for the risk of stroke in women younger than 50 years.
Methods: We used data from the Stichting Informatievoorziening voor Zorg en Onderzoek, population-based, primary care database of women aged 20-49 years without a history of cardiovascular disease.
Improving population health and reducing inequalities through better integrated health and social care services is high up on the agenda of policymakers internationally. In recent years, regional cross-domain partnerships have emerged in several countries, which aim to achieve better population health, quality of care and a reduction in the per capita costs. These cross-domain partnerships aim to have a strong data foundation and are committed to continuous learning in which data plays an essential role.

We aimed to identify transdiagnostic psychiatric symptom profiles and to study their association with well-being and the mediating role of functional limitations in a naturalistic psychiatric patient group.
Methods: We used four disorder-specific questionnaires to assess symptom severity within a sample of 448 psychiatric patients with stress-related and/or neurodevelopmental disorders and 101 healthy controls.
Transdiagnostic approaches to psychiatry have significant potential in overcoming the limitations of conventional diagnostic paradigms. However, while frameworks such as the Research Domain Criteria have garnered significant enthusiasm among researchers and clinicians from a theoretical angle, examples of how such an approach might translate in practice to understand the biological mechanisms underlying complex patterns of behaviors in realistic and heterogeneous populations have been sparse. In a richly phenotyped clinical sample (n = 186) specifically designed to capture the complex nature of heterogeneity and comorbidity within- and between stress- and neurodevelopmental disorders, we use exploratory factor analysis on a wide range of clinical questionnaires to identify four stable functional domains that transcend diagnosis and relate to negative valence, cognition, social functioning and inhibition/arousal before replicating them in an independent dataset (n = 188).

The aim of this study was to quantify the sex-specific cardiovascular death rates stratified by ethnicity and socioeconomic factors in an urban population in a universal healthcare system.
Methods: Age-standardized death rates (ASDR) were estimated in a dynamic population, aged 45-75 in the city of The Hague, the Netherlands, over the period 2007-2018, using data of Statistics Netherlands.
Biomolecules have been thoroughly investigated in a multitude of solvents historically in order to accentuate or modulate their superlative properties in an array of applications. Ionic liquids have been extensively explored over the last two decades as potential replacements for traditional organic solvents, however, they are sometimes associated with a number of limitations primarily related to cost, convenience, accessibility, and/or sustainability. One potential solvent which is gaining considerable traction in recent years is the so-called deep eutectic solvent which holds a number of striking advantages, including biodegradability, inherently low toxicity, and a facile, low-cost, and solventless preparation from widely available natural feedstocks.
