Over the past few decades, many studies have been conducted to explore the link between tinnitus and lipid metabolism, yielding inconsistent results. In our current study, we compared the prevalence of various lipid metabolism abnormalities in patients with chronic subjective idiopathic tinnitus (CSIT) to the official prevalence data of dyslipidaemia in the general adult Hungarian population. To counteract the distorting effect of the co-increase in both conditions with age, we also examined this relationship by age groups.

Understanding the Barriers to Clinical Trial Referral and Enrollment Among Oncology Providers Within the Veterans Health Administration.

Introduction: Clinical trials are essential for advancing treatment options in oncology while providing cancer patients with innovative care; however, few cancer patients are referred to clinical trials. System-, provider-, and patient-level barriers to clinical trial participation have been described but have not been studied in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). Although the VHA has engaged in several initiatives to improve Veteran's access to clinical trials, including the National Cancer Institute and VA Interagency Group to Accelerate Trials Enrollment program and VHA work on the White House Cancer Moonshot, further research is needed to understand the multifaceted challenges underlying limited enrollment for Veterans who receive care in the VHA system.

Clinical and microbiological characteristics and follow-up of invasive Listeria monocytogenes infection among hospitalized patients: real-world experience of 16 years from Hungary.

Purpose: Invasive Listeria monocytogenes infection is rare, but can lead to life-threatening complications among high-risk patients. Our aim was to assess characteristics and follow-up of adults hospitalized with invasive L. monocytogenes infection.

Grassland restoration on linear landscape elements - comparing the effects of topsoil removal and topsoil transfer.

Artificial linear landscape elements, including roads, pipelines, and drainage channels, are main sources of global habitat fragmentation. Restoration of natural habitats on unused linear landscape elements can increase habitat quality and connectivity without interfering with agricultural or industrial development. Despite that topsoil removal and transfer are widely applied methods in restoration projects, up to our knowledge these were previously not compared in the same study system.

Foam fractionation studies of recombinant human apolipoprotein A-I.

Apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I), the primary protein component of plasma high-density lipoproteins (HDL), is comprised of two structural regions, an N-terminal amphipathic α-helix bundle domain (residues 1-184) and a hydrophobic C-terminal domain (residues 185-243). When a recombinant fusion protein construct [bacterial pelB leader sequence - human apoA-I (1-243)] was expressed in Escherichia coli shaker flask cultures, apoA-I was recovered in the cell lysate. By contrast, when the C-terminal domain was deleted from the construct, large amounts of the truncated protein, apoA-I (1-184), were recovered in the culture medium.

Pediatric thyroid-like follicular renal cell carcinoma-a post-neuroblastoma case with comprehensive genomic profiling data.

Thyroid-like follicular renal cell carcinoma (TLFRCC), an emerging subtype of renal cell carcinoma, presents diagnostic challenges due to its resemblance to normal thyroid tissue. Here, we report a rare case of TLFRCC in a pediatric patient, a demographic rarely affected by this subtype. Histologically resembling a typical TLFRCC, our case exhibited unique features including post-neuroblastoma development, occurrence in a male teenager, and diffuse MelanA expression, which has not been previously reported in TLFRCC.

Meso-scale environmental heterogeneity drives plant trait distributions in fragmented dry grasslands.

Environmental heterogeneity shapes the patterns of resources and limiting factors and therefore can be an important driver of plant community composition through the selection of the most adaptive functional traits. In this study, we explored plant trait-environment relationships in environmentally heterogeneous microsite complexes at the meso-scale (few meters), and used ancient Bulgarian and Hungarian burial mounds covered by dry grasslands as a model habitat. We assessed within-site trait variability typical of certain microsites with different combinations of environmental parameters (mound slopes with different aspects, mound tops, and surrounding plain grasslands) using a dataset of 480 vegetation plots.

Effects of voluntary and forced physical exercise on the retinal health of aging Wistar rats.

Aging is accompanied by an increased prevalence of degenerative conditions, including those affecting ocular health, which significantly impact quality of life and increase the burden on healthcare systems. Background: Kidney dysfunction (KD) is a main limiting factor of applying guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT) and reaching the recommended target doses (TD) in heart failure (HF) with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF).

Hypothesis: We aimed to assess the success of optimization, long-term applicability, and adherence of neurohormonal antagonist triple therapy (TT:RASi [ACEi/ARB/ARNI] + βB + MRA) according to the KD after a HF hospitalization and to investigate its impact on prognosis.

Methods: The data of 247 real-world, consecutive patients were analyzed who were hospitalized in 2019-2021 for HFrEF and then were followed-up for 1 year.

Learning Curve for Starting a Successful Single-Centre TAVR Programme with Multiple Devices: Early and Mid-Term Follow-Up.

We report 30-day, 1-year, and 3-year outcomes for a new TAVR programme that used five different transcatheter heart valve (THV) systems. From 2014 to 2020, 122 consecutive patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) received TAVR based on the Heart Team decision. Outcomes were analysed for the whole study population and in addition the first 63 patients (Cohort A, 2014 to 2019) were compared to the last 59 patients (Cohort B, 2019 to 2020).

Single-Center Experience with the Balloon-Expandable Myval Transcatheter Aortic Valve System in Patients with Bicuspid Anatomy: Procedural and 30-Day Follow-Up.

To report our single-center data regarding the initial 52 consecutive patients with a bicuspid aortic valve who underwent a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure using the new balloon-expandable MYVAL system. The focus is on reporting procedural details and outcomes over the 30-day postoperative period. From December 2019 to July 2023, 52 consecutive patients underwent a TAVI procedure with bicuspid anatomy.

Before surgery, temporary storage and, in most cases, sterilization are essential. It is, thus, crucial to determine how these procedures alter the grafts' biomechanical properties.

PCSK7: A novel regulator of apolipoprotein B and a potential target against non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Background: Epidemiological evidence links the proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 7 (PCSK7) to triglyceride (TG) metabolism. We associated the known PCSK7 gain-of-function non-coding SNP rs236918 with higher levels of plasma apolipoprotein B (apoB) and the loss-of-function coding variant p.Pro777Leu (SNP rs201598301) with lower apoB and TG.

Comparison of anterior column reconstruction techniques after en bloc spondylectomy: a finite element study.

This study aimed to compare a femur graft, a polyetheretherketone implant (PEEK-IMP-C), a titan mesh cage (MESH-C), and a polymethylmethacrylate replacement (PMMA-C) using a finite element model of the lumbar spine after a TES of L3.

In the Anthropocene, humans are among the most abundant long-distance seed dispersal vectors globally, due to our increasing mobility and the growing global population. However, there are several knowledge gaps related to the process of human-vectored dispersal (HVD) on clothing. In a multi-site field experiment covering various habitat types in three countries of Central-Europe, we involved 88 volunteer participants and collected 251 HVD samples and 2008 subsamples from their socks and shoes.
