The central goal of this study was to investigate the alterations in transcriptome of testis in F1 generation adult rats exposed to carbimazole prenatally. At post-natal day 100, the testis of rats delivered to carbimazole exposed (time-mated pregnant rats orally administered with carbimazole from gestation day 9 to 21) and control (untreated pregnant rats) groups were subjected to transcriptomic analysis using NGS platform. A total of 187 differentially expressed (up regulated: 49 genes; down regulated: 138) genes were identified in carbimazole exposed rats over controls and the major processes associated with these altered testicular transcripts were examined.

Regeneration of bone tissue requires novel load bearing, biocompatible materials that support adhesion, spreading, proliferation, differentiation, mineralization, ECM production and maturation of bone-forming cells. Polycaprolactone (PCL) has many advantages as a biomaterial for scaffold production including tuneable biodegradation, relatively high mechanical toughness at physiological temperature. The present study was aimed to investigate the effect of PVC on reproductive competence in adult male Wistar rats. Further, the study also encompasses the protective effect of trans-resveratrol on PVC-induced reproductive toxicity in rats. Adult male rats weighing 210-240 g were administered with either PVC at two different doses 100 and 500 mg/kg body weight, orally, daily for 60 days or resveratrol (20 mg/kg body weight/day) through gavage for 60 days on alternate days or both PVC (500 mg/kg body weight) and resveratrol.

In the present study, the role of eyestalks and involvement of methionine-enkephalin in the regulation of haemolymph sugar level was studied. Bilateral eyestalk ablation significantly decreased the haemolymph sugar levels, whereas injection of eyestalk extract into ablated crabs significantly increased the haemolymph sugar levels. Total carbohydrate (TCHO) and glycogen levels were significantly increased in hepatopancreas and muscle of eyestalk-ablated crabs, with a decrease in phosphorylase activity.

The influence of methionine-enkephalin on carbohydrate metabolism of the prawns Penaeus indicus and Metapenaeus monocerus was studied. Injection of the opioid methionine-enkephalin into intact prawns induced significant hyperglycemia in a dose-dependent manner. Total tissue (midgut gland and muscle) carbohydrate and glycogen levels decreased following methionine-enkephalin injection, with a significant activation of phosphorylase in intact prawns, indicating glycogenolysis leading to hyperglycemia.

The hypothesis is tested that methionine-enkephalin, a hormone produced in and released from eyestalk of crustaceans, produces hyperglycemia indirectly by stimulating the release of hyperglycemic hormone from the eyestalks. Injection of methionine-enkephalin leads to hyperglycemia and hyperglucosemia in the estuarine crab Scylla serrata in a dose-dependent manner. Decreases in total carbohydrate (TCHO) and glycogen levels of hepatopancreas and muscle with an increase in phosphorylase activity were also observed in intact crabs after methionine-enkephalin injection.
