Purpose: The outcomes of motor and non-motor features of Parkinson's disease (PD) following DBS vary among its subtypes. We tested whether pre-operative motor subtyping using the modified Tremor/PIGD ratio, could indicate the short-term motor, non-motor and quality of life (QOL) outcomes of STN-DBS.

Method: In this prospective study, 39 consecutive STN-DBS cases were assessed in Drug-OFF state before surgery and subtyped using the ratio of tremor and PIGD scores (T/P ratio).

Objectives: We assessed the role of video oculography (VOG) in confirming clinically suspected slow saccades in PSP and differentiating PSP from Parkinson's disease (PD). Primary data were collected from 320 farmers engaged in high-value agriculture using a multistage sampling method.

Docosahexaenoic Acid and Pregnancy: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of the Association with Improved Maternal and Fetal Health.

This study aimed to investigate the effects of prenatal docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplementation on pregnancy outcomes through a systematic review and meta-analysis. We hypothesized that prenatal DHA intake through supplements will improve pregnancy outcomes. Detailed literature search was performed using online databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, and Google Scholar till November 2022, to identify the randomized controlled trials (RCT) with maternal intake of DHA supplementation during the latter half of pregnancy compared to the placebo/control.

Fabrication of a low-cost benchtop optical imager for quantum dot microarray-based stress biomarker detection.

We report on a simplified optical imager to detect the presence of a stress biomarker protein, namely the Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90). The imager consists of two elements the optical unit and the sensor, which is a custom-made biochip. Measurement is based on the masking of the streptavidin conjugated quantum dot's (Sav-QDs) fluorescence when Hsp90 attaches to it via biotinylated antibodies (Ab).

Background: Globally, alcohol consumption is a leading risk factor for deaths and disability and a causal factor in over 200 diseases, injuries, and health conditions. In April 2016, the manufacture, transport, sale, and consumption of alcohol was banned in Bihar, a populous Indian state. Resequencing the complete SNCA locus in Indian patients with Parkinson's disease.

The genetic loci implicated in familial Parkinson's disease (PD) have limited generalizability to the Indian PD population. We tested mutations and the frequency of known mutations in the SNCA gene in a PD cohort from India. We selected 298 PD cases and 301 age-matched controls for targeted resequencing (before QC), along with 363 PD genomes of Indian ancestry and 1029 publicly available whole genomes from India as healthy controls (IndiGenomes), to determine the frequency of monogenic SNCA mutations.

A Rare Case of Synchronous Invasive Adenocarcinoma of the Colon and Marginal Zone Lymphoma of a Splenule Associated With Hemolytic Anemia.

This case report presents a rare and intriguing clinical scenario involving a 63-year-old male with recurrent left-sided hydroureteronephrosis, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia presenting with fatigue, dyspnea, and weight loss. Laboratory findings revealed anemia, basophilic stippling, spherocytosis, and nucleated red blood cells on the peripheral blood smear, raising concerns for hemolysis. Concomitant iron deficiency anemia led to further investigations, revealing gastritis and a colonic mass.

Sclerotherapy in the Treatment of Hydroceles: A Comprehensive Review of the Efficacy, Types of Sclerosants, and Comparative Outcomes Against Hydrocelectomy.

While hydrocelectomy is the gold-standard for treating hydroceles, it poses an increased risk to patients and a greater burden to the healthcare system. Sclerotherapy is an alternative treatment for hydroceles that involves injecting a sclerosant into the hydrocele under ultrasound guidance. This literature review aimed to assess the types of sclerosants used and how sclerotherapy compares to hydrocelectomy.

A Case Report of Brugada Syndrome Associated With Physical Trauma.

Brugada syndrome is an autosomal dominant channelopathy that usually affects healthy young males without apparent structural heart disease. It is associated with a spectrum of variable and dynamic clinical manifestations, high risk of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death. Our patient demonstrated transient and dynamic EKG changes of both type 1 (coved) and type 2 (saddleback) ST elevation, suggestive of the Brugada pattern that was associated with physical chest trauma and stressful situations.
