Purpose: The outcomes of motor and non-motor features of Parkinson's disease (PD) following DBS vary among its subtypes. We tested whether pre-operative motor subtyping using the modified Tremor/PIGD ratio, could indicate the short-term motor, non-motor and quality of life (QOL) outcomes of STN-DBS.

Method: In this prospective study, 39 consecutive STN-DBS cases were assessed in Drug-OFF state before surgery and subtyped using the ratio of tremor and PIGD scores (T/P ratio).

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how T helper 2 (T2) cells, involved in allergic reactions, differentiate in barrier tissues, focusing on house dust mite-specific T cells in mice.
  • - Key to T2 cell differentiation and migration is the early expression of a protein called Blimp-1, with its absence hindering T2 cell development in the lungs.
  • - The findings highlight the importance of IL-2 signaling and the local environment in lymph nodes, which support the initial formation of T2 cells by promoting Blimp-1 and GATA3, crucial for allergic asthma development.

Article Synopsis
  • Corneal perforations can threaten vision if not treated quickly, with management based on size and cause, utilizing methods like tissue adhesives and grafts.
  • Tenon's patch grafting (TPG) has gained attention as a viable option due to its accessibility and reduced risk of immune response, particularly useful during emergencies when donor tissue is scarce.
  • TPG shows high success rates (74%-87%) in repairing corneal issues, but may not always provide optimal visual outcomes, often requiring further treatment like keratoplasty for better vision restoration.

We report on a simplified optical imager to detect the presence of a stress biomarker protein, namely the Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90). The imager consists of two elements the optical unit and the sensor, which is a custom-made biochip. Measurement is based on the masking of the streptavidin conjugated quantum dot's (Sav-QDs) fluorescence when Hsp90 attaches to it via biotinylated antibodies (Ab).

Limited availability of photogenerated charge carriers in two-dimensional (2D) materials, due to high exciton binding energies, is a major bottleneck in achieving efficient photocatalytic water splitting (PWS). Strong excitonic effects in 2D materials demand precise attention to electron-electron correlation, electron-hole interaction and electron-phonon coupling simultaneously. In this work, we explore the temperature-dependent electronic and optical responses of an efficient photocatalyst, blue-AsP (β-AsP), by integrating electron-phonon coupling into state-of-the-art GW + BSE calculations.

Unlabelled: The comprehensive genomic analysis of the head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) oncogenome revealed the frequent loss of p16INK4A (CDKN2A) and amplification of cyclin D1 genes in most human papillomavirus-negative HNSCC lesions. However, cyclin-dependent kinase 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) inhibitors have shown modest effects in the clinic. The aberrant activation of the PI3K/mTOR pathway is highly prevalent in HNSCC, and recent clinical trials have shown promising clinical efficacy of mTOR inhibitors (mTORi) in the neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings but not in patients with advanced HNSCC.

Background: Micronutrient deficiencies are widespread in India. Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections are acquired by interaction with soil and water contaminated by human feces and lead to blood loss and poor micronutrient absorption. The current recommendation for control of STH-related morbidity is targeted deworming, yet little is known about the effectiveness of deworming on micronutrient status in varying sanitation contexts.
