Background: Intravascular ultrasound-determined plaque protrusion (PP) during carotid artery stenting (CAS) using conventional stents is reported in 7.6% to 12% of cases and is associated with periprocedural cerebral embolism. The Casper/Roadsaver stent (CRS) is a dual-layer micromesh stent designed to reduce the risk of PP, with a mesh cell diameter 4-fold smaller size than that of conventional stents.

Thalamic lesions are rarely detected by DWI in sporadic CJD (sCJD) cases with methionine homozygosity at polymorphic codon 129 (129MM) of the prion protein (PrP) gene. Here, we describe an unusual sCJD case, characterized by prolonged isolated thalamic diffusion hyperintensities and atypical brain pathology, in combination with the 129MM genotype.

Methods: Patients who underwent Gd-EOB-DTPA-MRI before Atezolizumab/bevacizumab therapy at six affiliated institutions between 2018 and 2022 were included. CV for each patient was calculated as the mean value for up to five tumors larger than 10 mm, and CV of the whole tumor was calculated using LIFEx software.
Accelerator-based boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) systems employing a solid-state lithium target indicated the reduction of neutron flux over the lifetime of a target, and its reduction could represent the neutron flux model. This study proposes a novel compensatory approach for delivering the required neutron fluence and validates its clinical applicability. The proposed approach relies on the neutron flux model and the cumulative sum of real-time measurements of proton charges.

Thus far, the contributions of the ion adsorption energy and the activation barrier for ion desorption toward the ion-dependent excess potential have not been quantified. Herein, we report on our infrared-visible sum-frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy study of the hysteretic responses of the anion adsorption/desorption at Pt electrode interfaces using neat, binary, and diluted RTILs composed of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium cations ([Cmim]) and bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide ([TFSA]) and trifluoromethanesulfonate ([OTf]) anions.

To elucidate the electronic state of , we performed band calculations as well as transport, magnetic, and optical measurements.

Hemorrhagic transformation after ischemic stroke has also been associated with contrast media administration. The objective of our study was to evaluate correlations between contrast media type and incidence of SICH after MT.

SGLT2 inhibitors suppress renal glucose reabsorption, therefore reducing blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. We and others have developed several SGLT2 inhibitors starting from phlorizin, a natural product.

Subsequently, the use of DWI has improved diagnostic accuracy, but it sometimes remains difficult to differentiate CJD from encephalitis, epilepsy, and other dementing disorders. The revised diagnostic criteria include real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC), detecting small amounts of CJD-specific prion protein, and clinically sensitive DWI.

A total of 79 participants, comprising 28 patients with isolated cerebellar stroke, 27 patients with isolated cerebral stroke and 24 healthy controls, performed Poggendorff illusion tasks and 2 different control tasks. We also investigated core brain regions underpinning changes in the experience of the illusion effect using multivariate lesion-symptom mapping.

We employed the real-time target enrichment system of the nanopore GridION sequencer using the adaptive sampling option, in which software-based target assignment is available without prior sample enrichment, and built an analysis pipeline that prioritized the disease-causing loci. Twenty-two patients with various neurological and neuromuscular diseases, including 12 with genetically diagnosed repeat expansion diseases and 10 manifesting cerebellar ataxia, but without genetic diagnosis, were analyzed.

Introduction: The basal ganglia and related dopaminergic cortical areas are important neural systems underlying motor learning and are also implicated in impulse control disorders (ICDs). Motor learning impairments and ICDs are frequently observed in Parkinson's disease (PD). Nevertheless, the relationship between motor learning ability and ICDs has not been elucidated.

Biallelic AAGGG repeat expansion in RFC1 has been identified as causative of this disease, and repeat conformation heterogeneity (ACAGG repeat) was also recently implied. To molecularly characterize this disease in Japanese patients with adult-onset ataxia, we accumulated and screened 212 candidate families by an integrated approach consisting of flanking PCR, repeat-primed PCR, Southern blotting and long-read sequencing using Sequel II, GridION or PromethION.

We report a case of intraoperative PP after CAS despite the use of stent-in-stent technique.
Case Presentation: A 63-year-old man presented with rapid progression of right carotid artery stenosis with unstable plaque during follow-up and was admitted to undergo CAS.
Background: Although endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) has become the dominant therapeutic approach for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), continued sac growth after EVAR remains a major concern and is still unpredictable. Since AAA formation is thought to arise from atherosclerotic vascular damage of the aortic wall, we hypothesize that the severity of atherosclerosis in the AAA wall may influence sac growth. Therefore, we investigated whether brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), a marker of atherosclerosis severity obtained by noninvasive automatic devices, can predict sac growth after EVAR.

The levels of total tau protein, 14-3-3 protein, and protease-resistant isoform of prion protein (PrP) in the cerebrospinal fluid; periodic sharp wave complexes on electroencephalography; and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) of brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have all been used to diagnose symptomatic CJD, but none of these markers have been established in the diagnosis of presymptomatic CJD. Here, we report a case of genetic CJD with the V180I mutation in which a small punctate cortical hyperintensity was detected on DWI 6 months before symptom onset and 9 months before diagnosis.

Verbal fluency tasks are widely used to assess executive function in PDD. However, in cases of PD with MCI (PD-MCI), the relative diagnostic accuracy of different qualitative verbal fluency measures and their related neural mechanisms remain unknown.

In the present work, we examined an organic metal|insulator|semiconductor|insulator|metal (MISIM) device structure to stabilize the interfacial polarization in the S layer and to induce polarization hysteresis even without bulk ferroelectrics. The MISIM devices with I = parylene C and S = TMB (=3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine)-TCNQ (=tetracyanoquinodimethane) exhibited hysteresis loops in the polarization-voltage (-) curves not only at room temperature but also over a wide temperature range down to 80 K.
