The pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and TNF-alpha have been implicated in the pathogenesis of otitis media with effusion (OME). A disease where goblet cells proliferate in a modified respiratory epithelium, leading to the accumulation of a mucin-rich effusion in the middle ear cleft. The MUC5AC and MUC5B mucin gene products have been identified as components of these effusions.

[Prognostication of the outcome of heart valve prosthesis implantation by the method of nonlinear chaos dynamics of the heart rate].

An examination of 39 patients with heart diseases was performed before and after operations by the method of geometrical analysis of the nonlinear chaos (fractal) variability of the cardiac rhythm on the basis of the apparatus-programmed complex "Poly-spectrum". Five-minute-long registrations of ECG were carried on. On the basis of the data of examination of 195 healthy volunteers the reference norm of this method parameters was determined.

[Reaction time to visual stimuli in child development].

The simple and differential reaction time and time of cognitive processes were studied in 3-7-year-old children using age-adapted computer technique. The reaction time significantly decreased with age in parallel with improvement of cognitive processes. An experimental method is proposed, which makes it possible to determine what kind of cognitive process is responsible for age-related decrease in the reaction time.

The MAK-V protein kinase regulates endocytosis in mouse.

We report the cloning of a mouse cDNA encoding the MAK-V protein kinase, with a putative specificity for serine/threonine residues. The mak-v gene is transcribed in adult brain and in the mouse embryo from at least 7.5 dpc.

The mouse tag7 gene was cloned and characterized in our previous works. This work is devoted to identifying and cloning its homologs. The human homolog of the tag7 gene was cloned.

Modern gene therapeutic approaches towards the treatment of malignant neoplasms are discussed. Specifically, results of the first experiments on the development of vaccines on the basis of tumor cells modified with various cytokines and activation molecules are described. We compare effectiveness of different cytokines used for modification of tumor cells are made and consider possible mechanisms of vaccine action.

Antitumor activity of alpha-fetoprotein conjugate with doxorubicin in vitro and in vivo.

alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP) was conjugated with doxorubicin (DR) using glutaraldehyde as a cross-linking agent. The protein/DR molar ratio in the conjugate is 1 : 2. Cytotoxic activities (CTA) of the AFP-DR conjugate and of the free DR were compared using human mammary gland carcinoma cells, both DR-sensitive (MCF-7Wt) and DR-resistant (MCF-7AdrR).

Resistance to tumor necrosis factor induced apoptosis in vitro correlates with high metastatic capacity of cells in vivo.

TNF is one of the cytokines secreted by the cells of the immune system. Our data demonstrate that those cell lines lacking capability to form metastatic tumors in vivo are susceptible to TNF induced apoptosis in vitro. However, cell lines with high metastatic potential are resistant to TNF in vitro.

Molecular cloning and characterization of the mouse tag7 gene encoding a novel cytokine.

Cloning of the mouse tag7 gene encoding a novel cytokine is described. The Tag7 protein consists of 182 amino acids. Genomic organization of the tag7 gene and its promoter region remind those of the genes of the tumor necrosis factor locus, although the tag7 gene is not linked to this locus.

A minisatellite "core" element constitutes a novel, chromatin-specific activator of mts1 gene transcription.

Expression of the mts1 gene is often associated with malignant transformation of tumor cells. Transcription of the gene is controlled by a number of positive and negative regulatory elements, all of them being localized in the first intron (+38 to +1215) of the mts1 gene. Through analysis of the distribution of DNase I hypersensitive sites in the first intron of the gene we revealed a structurally conserved region that consisted of a non-canonical NFkB binding site and a minisatellite "core" element.

Diagnosis and Treatment of Uterine Septum.
