We present a 14-day-old premature born girl with a temperature of 37.8°C and a swelling and redness of the right parotid gland. Laboratory tests revealed a CRP of 79 mg/l and ultrasound examination confirmed a parotitis.

Background: Plant poisoning is becoming an increasingly common reason to consult a doctor.

Case Description: A 7-month-old infant was sent to the emergency room by her general practitioner with a suspected apparent life-threatening event (ALTE). Objective: Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection can progress to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) in infants. ARDS is a life-threatening condition that is characterized by severe hypoxemia, defined as PaO(2)/FiO(2) ratio <300 mmHg. This ratio is used in many trials as the sole oxygenation criterion for ARDS.
