Article Synopsis
  • The SENTIREC-endo study explores the safety and effectiveness of sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping in women with early-stage low-grade endometrial cancer, specifically focusing on those with low- and intermediate-risk for lymph node metastases.
  • A multicenter study from March 2017 to February 2022 included 627 women, showing a high SLN detection rate of 94.3% and revealing a low overall incidence of lymph node metastases at 9.3%.
  • The results indicate minimal postoperative complications (only 8%) and a very low incidence of lymphedema, suggesting that SLN mapping is a safe technique that can improve treatment for low- and intermediate-risk endometrial cancer patients.

Objective: One way to improve the survival rate of epithelial Ovarian Cancer (EOC) is by identifying effective biomarkers useful at different stages and time points of the disease. A potential biomarker is circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in plasma or serum. In this systematic review, we provide an overview of applications of ctDNA in EOC to discuss the direction of future research in this field.

Introduction: Danish women exit cervical cancer screening at age 65 years, but 23% of cervical cancer cases occur beyond this age. In addition, due to gradual implementation of cervical cancer screening, older women are underscreened by today´s standards. A one-time screening with HPV test was therefore offered to Danish women born before 1948.

A chemotherapy response score (CRS) system was recently described to assess the histopathologic response and prognosis of patients with tubo-ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The current study was performed as an independent assessment of this CRS system. We retrospectively identified advanced stage HGSC patients who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy and underwent interval debulking.

Objective: Borderline ovarian tumors (BOTs) are treated surgically like malignant ovarian tumors with hysterectomy, salpingectomy, omentectomy, and multiple random peritoneal biopsies in addition to removal of the ovaries. It is, however, unknown how often removal of macroscopically normal-appearing tissues leads to the finding of microscopic disease. To evaluate the value of random biopsies, omentectomy, and hysterectomy in operations for BOT, the macroscopic and microscopic findings in a cohort of these patients were reviewed retrospectively.

Different from significant gene expression analysis which looks for genes that are differentially regulated, feature selection in the microarray-based prognostic gene expression analysis aims at finding a subset of marker genes that are not only differentially expressed but also informative for prediction. Unfortunately feature selection in literature of microarray study is predominated by the simple heuristic univariate gene filter paradigm that selects differentially expressed genes according to their statistical significances. We introduce a combinatory feature selection strategy that integrates differential gene expression analysis with the Gram-Schmidt process to identify prognostic genes that are both statistically significant and highly informative for predicting tumour survival outcomes.

The purpose was to find a gene expression profile that could distinguish short-term from long-term survivors in our collection of serous epithelial ovarian carcinomas. Furthermore, it should be able to stratify in an external validation set. Such a classifier profile will take us a step forward toward investigations for more individualized therapies and the use of gene expression profiles in the clinical practice.

Ovarian cancer cells exhibit complex karyotypic alterations causing deregulation of numerous genes. Some of these genes are probably causal for cancer formation and local growth, whereas others are causal for metastasis and recurrence. By using publicly available data sets, we have investigated the relation of gene expression and chromosomal position to identify chromosomal regions of importance for early recurrence of ovarian cancer.
