Tailoring of the Properties of Amorphous Mesoporous Titanosilicates Active in Acetone Condensation.

Amorphous mesoporous materials are promising as catalysts for processes involving or forming bulk molecules. In a reaction such as acetone condensation to form mesitylene, an effective catalyst should not only have a developed porous structure but also have active centers of acidic and basic types. The sol-gel approach allows one to obtain titanosilicates with such characteristics.

[Psychological characteristics of working and non-working elderly people.].

A comparative analysis of the psychological characteristics of the working and non-working population in the context of personal employment, demand and quality life. The study was conducted with the participation of 51 women and 58 men, age 65,35±5,25 years. Randomization into two groups: the 1st group - 59 people of those continuing to work in the field of higher and vocational education; the 2nd group (50 people) consisted of non-working pensioners whose labor activity was related to teaching, taking care of their families, children and grandchildren, the circle of their social contacts is limited by the connections necessary to ensure life.

A Monoblock Light-Scattering Milk Fat Percentage and Somatic Cell Count Sensor for Use in Milking Systems.

A monoblock light-scattering sensor, which is capable of measuring the fat content of milk and indicating the excess by which the somatic cell count (SCC) is over the permissible level, has been developed for installation in dairy systems. In order for the sensor to perform measurements when the milking machine is working in the "milk plug" mode, a flow-through unit is designed in the form of a pipe with a lateral cylindrical branch, in which milk accumulates so as to eliminate large bubbles and achieve continuity of the milk flow. The operation of the sensor is based on the registration of the angular intensity distribution of light scattered in the transparent cylindrical segment of the tube branch.

CO-Assisted Sugar Cane Gasification Using Transition Metal Catalysis: An Impact of Metal Loading on the Catalytic Behavior.

To meet the increasing needs of fuels, especially non-fossil fuels, the production of "bio-oil" is proposed and many efforts have been undertaken to find effective ways to transform bio-wastes into valuable substances to obtain the fuels and simultaneously reduce carbon wastes, including CO. This work is devoted to the gasification of sugar cane bagasse to produce CO in the process assisted by CO. The metals were varied (Fe, Co, or Ni), along with their amounts, in order to find the optimal catalyst composition.

Recent Advances in the Chemistry of Saturated Annulated Nitrogen-Containing Polycyclic Compounds.

This review is devoted to the analysis of works published over the past 20 years on the chemistry of saturated annulated nitrogen-containing polycyclic compounds, the molecules of which consist of four, five, six, and seven cycles, and contain from one to eight endocyclic nitrogen atoms.

Prognostic Molecular and Biological Characteristics of Phyllodes Tumors of the Breast.

Prognosis for some histological variants of a rare breast disease, phyllodes tumors, is evaluated. The prognostic potential of some molecular biological factors significantly correlating with breast cancer prognosis is evaluated on a unique clinical material (244 cases with benign, intermediate, and malignant phyllodes tumors). The development of benign phyllodes tumor relapse directly correlated with the number of G0/1-phase cells and inversely correlated with the number of cells in the G2+M and S phases.

A new approach to epithelial-mesenchymal transition diagnostics in epithelial tumors: double immunofluorescent staining and flow cytometry.

A new method of double immunofluorescent staining for flow cytometry has been created to evaluate quantitative expression of mesenchymal protein vimentin only in epithelial cells of a solid tumor that is a mix of different origin cells.  vimentin expression is strongly associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition and therefore is a metastatic potential marker of epithelial tumor cells. In comparison with semiquantitative available methods, the proposed one has several advantages, such as the accurate measurement of the marker's expression, and minimization of spatial and temporal tumor heterogeneity.

Synthesis, structure, and antitumor activity of 2,9-disubstituted perhydro 2,3a,7b,9,10a,14b-hexaazadibenzotetracenes.

Catalytic methods for the synthesis of previously unknown 2,9-disubstituted 3b*,7a*,10b*,14a*--14c,14d-perhydro-2,3a,7b,9,10a,14b-hexaazadibenzotetracenes have been developed. The structures were established by 1D (H, C) and 2D (COSY, HSQC, HMBC) NMR spectroscopy, MALDI TOF/TOF mass spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction analysis. Primary screening of the synthesized perhydro hexaazadibenzotetracenes for antitumor activity was carried out.

First Example of Catalytic Synthesis of Difurazanohexahydrohexaazapyrenes and Study of Their Antitumor Activity.

Catalytic method for synthesis of hexahydrohexaazapyrenes bearing two annelated furazan moieties has been successfully developed. Structures of synthesized hexahydrodioxadecaazadicyclopenta[,]pyrenes have been determined on the basis of NMR data using 2D techniques, MALDI TOF/TOF mass spectrometry, and X-ray analysis. Primary screening of hexahydrodioxadecaazadicyclopenta[,]pyrenes for cytotoxic activity against the K562, Jurkat, U937, and HeLa tumor cell lines has been performed.

New Data on Molecular Targets of Tamoxifen Besides Estrogen Receptors, Their Clinical Significancy.

Tamoxifen is the first target agent with a high-end position in breast cancer therapy till now. In recent years experimental researches revealed new biological effects of tamoxifen on tumor cells. The present study continues the theme of the review published in 2012, where a plenty of tamoxifen effects besides interaction with estrogen receptors was discussed.

Analysis of informativeness of immunohistochemical and flow cytometric methods for estrogen receptor α assessment.

Informative capacity analysis of immunohistochemistry (IHC) and flow cytometry (FCM) in the assessment of estrogen receptor α (ERα) expression in breast cancer tissue was performed. Similar frequencies of expression were shown by both methods: 27% of ERα-negative and 73% ERα-positive cases. However, IHC evaluation detected low levels in only 20% of ERα-positive cases, whereas low levels of ERα detected by FCM were 2 times more often (48%).

[Glutoxime--an inhibitor of multiple drug resistance phenotype associated with Pgp expression].

Interaction of Glutoxime with P-glucoprotein (Pgp), a multiple drug resistance marker, as well as the Glutoxime impact on doxorubicin intracellular accumulation were investigated. It was shown that the Glutoxime effect on the Pgp expressing tumor cells resulted in a decrease of the cell specific fluorescence intensity, conditioned by binding of the monoclonal antibodies to the transport protein. That was evident of Glutoxime competition with the monoclonal antibodies for binding to Pgp and indicative of the modificator interaction with the transport protein.

[Up-to-date approaches to clinical estimate of phenotype of multiple drug resistance associated with function of ABC-transporters in human solid tumors].

The data on the discovery, specific features and evolution of the aftereffects of functioning in the cells of the ABC-transporters Pgp, MRP and BCRP, the markers of multiple drug resistance (MDRABC), are discussed. The results of the estimate of the MDRABC phenotype of human solid tumors were critically analyzed using different methodic approaches. It was shown that the frequency of the MDRABC phenotype detection by expression of the genes, encoding the ABC-transporter synthesis, was higher than that in detection of transport proteins in the cell.

[Clinical features and surgical treatment of chronic tonsillitis in patients with thyroid diseases].

Out of 715 patients with thyroid disorders chronic tonsillitis was detected in 23.8, 35.5, 43.

[Cholecystectomy using minimal laparotomy approach].

The results of operative treatment of 36 patients with chronic calculous cholecystitis with the use of minor laparotomy approach are presented. Early postoperative rehabilitation of the patients due to reduced trauma of the operative intervention permitted to shorten 2-times the duration of treatment. There were no postoperative complications.

[Disorders of oxidizing metabolism as a criterion of evaluation of the course of wound healing in experimental animals].

The authors carried out 90 experiments in fertile male Wistar rats and 10 experiments in rabbits with noncomplicated and complicated (infectious) wounds. We have revealed in the first 24 hours the characteristic changes of pro- and antioxidation potentials and acid-alkaline condition of blood plasma. The increasing of specific activity of LPO product by 30-40% and the decreasing of hydroperoxides level in comparison with the initial levels of these indicators and the decreasing of blood pH point out the possibility of purulent inflammation development in postoperative wounds.

[Complex therapy of alcoholic patients with diseases of the liver and gastrointestinal tract].

A total of 218 male alcoholics with liver and gastrointestinal diseases were examined. All patients received active anti-alcohol therapy using a modified technique of developing an emotionally negative reflex toward alcohol beverages by spraying alcohol in the oral and nasopharyngeal cavities. The patients responded favourably: in 38% of the patients remission lasted up to 6 months; in 23%, up to 12 months; and in 34%, from 12 to 24 months.

[Comparative immunochemical and immunocytochemical study of 3 soluble granulocytic proteins in blood cells and serum].

Using immunofluorescence, it has been shown that leukocyte thermostable alpha-glycoprotein (LTAG) and leukocyte beta-globulin (LBG) are, like lactoferrin, components of polynuclear leukocytes. These proteins were found in the perinuclear zone, cytoplasm membrane and extracellularly. Serum LTAG concentration increases in immune inflammatory diseases.

Features of osmotic and ionic regulations in Russian sturgeon (Acipenser güldenstädti Brandt).

The osmolality of blood serum of one group of Russian sturgeon fished out in Southern Caspian Sea was the same as their habitat, the other group of sturgeons had a serum osmolality several per cent lower than that of sea-water in this part of the Caspian Sea. Ion concentrations in blood serum in sturgens were similar in fresh water and the Caspian Sea. The feature of the Russian sturgeon's kidney is intensive potassium secretion and a comparatively low level of magnesium secretion.
