Introduction: Antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-associated vasculitis (AAV) with renal involvement primarily affects the renal cortex and presents with key histopathologic findings of a pauci-immune necrotizing and crescentic glomerulonephritis. Infrequently reported and poorly characterized is renal medullary angiitis (RMA), a pathologic variant of AAV primarily involving the renal medulla. This study seeks to describe the presentation and treatment outcomes of RMA.

Iron-Catalyzed Intermolecular Oxyamination of Terminal Alkenes Promoted by HFIP Using Hydroxylamine Derivatives.

An atom-economical intermolecular iron-catalyzed oxyamination of alkenes is described herein. The insertion of oxygenated and nitrogenated moieties from the hydroxylamine substrate was observed with full regio- and chemo-selectivity for terminal alkenes in good yields. HFIP as a solvent appeared to have a synergistic effect with the iron catalyst to promote the formation of the oxyaminated products.

Microfluidic vortex shedding (µVS) can rapidly deliver mRNA to T cells with high yield and minimal perturbation of the cell state. The mechanistic underpinning of µVS intracellular delivery remains undefined and µVS-Cas9 genome editing requires further studies. Cell envelope proteins from subspecies (MAP) that are antigenically distinct from closely related mycobacterial species are potentially useful for Johne's Disease (JD) diagnosis. We evaluated the potential of ELISAs, based on six antigenically distinct recombinant MAP cell envelope proteins (SdhA, FadE25_2, FadE3_2, Mkl, DesA2, and hypothetical protein MAP1233) as well as an extract of MAP total cell envelope proteins, to detect antibodies against MAP in the sera of infected cattle. The sensitivity (Se) and specificity (Sp) of an ELISA based on MAP total cell envelope proteins, when analyzing 153 bovine serum samples, was 75 and 96%, respectively.

Frailty assessment in patients admitted to intensive care is often limited using traditional clinical frailty assessment tools. Opportunistic use of contemporary computed tomography (CT) can provide an objective estimate of low skeletal muscle mass (sarcopenia) as a proxy for frailty. The aim of this study was to establish the prevalence of sarcopenia in an Australian intensive care unit (ICU) population and to examine the relationship between sarcopenia and clinical outcomes.
