Article Synopsis
  • The inflammatory tumor microenvironment (TME) significantly contributes to cancer progression, particularly in prostate cancer.
  • Tumor-associated macrophages (especially M1, pro-inflammatory types) promote cancer stemness while suppressing androgen response in prostate cancer cells.
  • The study suggests that M1 macrophages do this by releasing factors that activate the NFκB signaling pathway, leading to increased expression of cancer stem cell markers like NANOG and KLF4.

The atomic/molecular layer deposition (ALD/MLD) technique combining both inorganic and organic precursors is strongly emerging as a unique tool to design exciting new functional metal-organic thin-film materials. Here, this method is demonstrated to work even at low deposition temperatures and can produce highly stable and conformal thin films, fulfilling the indispensable prerequisites of today's 3D microelectronics and other potential industrial applications. This new ALD/MLD process is developed for Zn-organic thin films grown from non-pyrophoric bis-3-(N,N-dimethylamino)propyl zinc [Zn(DMP)] and 1,4-benzene dithiol (BDT) precursors.

This study investigates the effects of productivity, energy consumption, foreign direct investments, and urbanization on carbon dioxide emissions (CO) in Finland during 2000-2020 using an autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model. The results show that (i) there is evidence of cointegration among variables; (ii) energy consumption has a positive effect on CO emissions in the long run; (iii) labor productivity and urbanization have a negative effect on CO emissions in the long run; (iv) foreign direct investments are not a significant explainer of CO emissions. The results are discussed with some policy implications and suggested future research.

Package plants (PP) are implemented around the world to provide on-site sanitation in areas not connected to a sewage network. The efficiency of PP has not been comprehensively studied at full scale, and the limited number of available studies have shown that their performance varies greatly. Their performance under cold climate conditions and the occurrence of micropollutants in PP effluents have not been sufficiently explored.

Article Synopsis
  • Guidelines for managing atrial fibrillation (AF) have significantly evolved, and a study examined trends in treatment and outcomes from 2007 to 2017 in Finland, assessing data from a nationwide cohort of 206,909 patients.
  • The use of oral anticoagulants (OACs) rose dramatically from 43.6% to 76.3%, particularly among patients at higher risk for strokes, leading to a decrease in one-year mortality from 13.3% to 10.6% and a significant reduction in ischaemic strokes from 5.3% to 2.2%.
  • Despite a rise in major bleeding events, catheter ablation for rhythm control saw continuous growth, while other rhythm

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the trends in atrial fibrillation (AF) in Finland, analyzing data from 2004 to 2018 to understand how the condition affects the population, especially as people age.
  • The findings indicated a rise in both the incidence and prevalence of AF, with the latter increasing from 2.5% to 5.2% among adults, and men experiencing higher rates than women.
  • Overall, while new cases of AF grew over time, the age-adjusted incidence remained consistent, highlighting that age is a significant factor in AF prevalence.

Article Synopsis
  • In Finland, researchers studied if people living in rural areas get different heart treatments compared to those in cities when they have a heart condition called atrial fibrillation (AF).
  • They looked at a lot of patients from 2010 to 2018 and found that overall, there weren't huge differences between rural and urban areas in using treatments.
  • However, people in cities used a specific kind of treatment called antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs) a bit more than those in rural areas, suggesting cities might have slightly better access to some heart treatments.
