Background: Flat epithelial atypia (FEA), a rare breast proliferative lesion, is often diagnosed following core biopsy (CB) of mammographic microcalcifications. In the prospective multi-institution TBCRC 034 trial, we investigate the upgrade rate to ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) or invasive cancer following excision for patients diagnosed with FEA on CB.

Patients And Methods: Patients with a breast imaging reporting and data system (BI-RADS) ≤ 4 imaging abnormality and a concordant CB diagnosis of FEA were identified for excision.

Early detection of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) can improve survival but is hampered by the absence of early disease symptoms. Imaging remains key for surveillance but is cumbersome and may lack sensitivity to detect small tumors. CA19-9, the only FDA-approved blood biomarker for PDAC, is insufficiently sensitive and specific to be recommended for surveillance.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of precarious employment (PE) on the mental health of Australians. Building on previous research, we conceptualised PE as a multidimensional construct, accounted for gender differences in the associations, and our modelling strategy addressed the possibility of reverse causality bias. Data was pooled panel data from 15 waves (2005-2019) of the HILDA survey (n = 14,237).

The family Oceanitidae, formerly considered a subfamily of Hydrobatidae, includes all the small storm-petrels of the southern hemisphere. The ancestor-descendent relationships and evolutionary history of one of its genera, Oceanites, have been partially studied, yielding contrasting results. We revised the phylogenetic relationships of this group using Bayesian inference (BI) based on new sequence data of the mitochondrial gene Cytb and linear morphological measurements of all species and five subspecies-level taxa in Oceanites, including a new taxon from the Chilean Andes.

Background: Two surgical approaches have emerged for axillary staging in cN1 breast cancer patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC): sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) and targeted axillary dissection (TAD). Direct comparisons of technical and oncological outcomes with SLNB versus TAD are lacking.

Methods: We routinely performed SLNB from 2017 to 2018 for cN1 breast cancer patients who converted to cN0 after NAC, then adopted TAD from 2019 to 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • Low uptake and adherence to breast cancer preventive therapy are primarily due to fears of serious side effects and menopausal symptoms.
  • A study indicates that low-dose tamoxifen is effective and has fewer side effects for high-risk women, leading to better patient adherence.
  • More than 70% of women who were counseled about low-dose tamoxifen continued taking it after one year, suggesting this treatment could improve breast cancer prevention efforts and lower related mortality rates.

Domestic cats () are often exposed to stimuli that have the potential to negatively impact their welfare. These can include situations such as veterinary visits, travel, changes to their home environment, and interactions with unfamiliar people or pets. Cannabidiol (CBD)-infused pet products have grown in popularity in recent years, as pet owners search for ways to calm and relax their pets.

Advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment have substantially improved patient outcomes and survival in recent years. However, up to 75% of cancer patients and survivors, including those with non-central nervous system (non-CNS) cancers, suffer from "brain fog" or impairments in cognitive functions such as attention, memory, learning, and decision-making. While we recognize the impact of cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI), we have not fully investigated and understood the causes, mechanisms and interplays of various involving factors.

Importance: Young adults aged 18 to 39 years represent the minority of breast cancer diagnoses but are particularly vulnerable to financial hardship. Factors contributing to sustained financial hardship are unknown.

Objectives: To identify financial hardship patterns over time and characterize factors associated with discrete trajectories; it was hypothesized that treatment-related arm morbidity, a key source of expense, would be associated with long-term financial difficulty.

Article Synopsis
  • - The experiment at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory aimed to produce a superheavy element with an atomic number of 114 or greater by bombarding an actinide target with a ^{50}Ti beam.
  • - Using the Berkeley Gas-filled Separator, researchers successfully isolated and implanted produced Livermorium (Lv) ions into a high-tech detector system, observing two decay chains linked to ^{290}Lv.
  • - The measured production cross-section of the process was 0.44 picobarns at a specific energy, marking the first published evidence of superheavy element production near the "island of stability" with this method, paving the way for future discoveries beyond element Z=118.

Article Synopsis
  • Facial fractures are rarer in kids compared to adults but can cause major long-term issues, especially with growth and function; mandibular fractures are the most common type for both age groups.
  • A study analyzed data from a national trauma database to compare how these fractures were treated and their outcomes in children versus adults, looking at various factors like treatment methods and complications.
  • Findings revealed that pediatric patients received care more quickly and were often transferred to trauma centers, while both groups had similar rates of antibiotic use and low complication rates; more research is needed to create specific treatment guidelines for kids.
