A 57-year-old male veteran presented to the emergency department for recurrent fevers for 10 days. The patient was febrile but had an overall benign physical exam. This interesting case explores the broad differential diagnosis and evaluation in a patient who presents with fever of unknown origin.

This systematic review compared the outcomes of different treatment modalities to ascertain the best. Association of oral health with risk of incident micro and macrovascular complications: A prospective cohort study of 24,862 people with diabetes.

Aims: To investigate the association between self-reported oral health and incident micro and macrovascular diabetes complications.

Methods: This prospective cohort study linked data from the 45 and Up Study, Australia, to administrative health records. The participants were 24,862 men and women, aged ≥45 years, with diabetes at baseline (2006-2009).

However, 4D Printing presents a method to manufacture highly personalized, shape-changing, minimally invasive biomedical implants. Shape memory polymers (SMPs) with a glass transition temperature (T) between room and body temperature (20-38 °C) are particularly desirable for this purpose, as they can be deformed to a temporary shape before implantation, then undergo a shape change within the body.

Extrasynaptic GABA receptors (GABARs) composed of α4, β, and δ subunits mediate GABAergic tonic inhibition and are potential molecular targets in the modulation of behavioral responses to natural and drug rewards. These GABARs are highly expressed within the nucleus accumbens (NAc), where they influence the excitability of the medium spiny neurons. Here, we explore their role in modulating behavioral responses to food-conditioned cues and the behavior-potentiating effects of cocaine.

Background: Although there has been a slight increase in dental professionals since 2011, 98 of North Carolina's 100 counties are designated as Dental Health Professional Shortage Areas by the Heath Resources and Service Administration. This shortage significantly increases disparities and access to primary and specialized oral health care. Also, dental professionals in these remote locations may feel the access and referrals to oral and maxillofacial pathologists cumbersome.

Oral health literacy, knowledge and perceptions in a socially and culturally diverse population: a mixed methods study.

Background: Poor oral health literacy has been proposed as a causal factor in disparities in oral health outcomes. This study aims to investigate oral health literacy (OHL) in a socially and culturally diverse population of Australian adults visiting a public dental clinic in Western Sydney.

Methods: A mixed methods study where oral health literacy was assessed using the Health Literacy in Dentistry scale (HeLD-14) questionnaire and semi-structured interviews explored oral health related knowledge, perceptions and attitudes.

Coherent Control of Trapped-Ion Qubits with Localized Electric Fields.

We present a new method for coherent control of trapped ion qubits in separate interaction regions of a multizone trap by simultaneously applying an electric field and a spin-dependent gradient. Both the phase and amplitude of the effective single-qubit rotation depend on the electric field, which can be localized to each zone. We demonstrate this interaction on a single ion using both laser-based and magnetic-field gradients in a surface-electrode ion trap, and measure the localization of the electric field.

Importance: Valid biomarkers that can predict longitudinal clinical outcomes at low cost are a holy grail in psychiatric research, promising to ultimately be used to optimize and tailor intervention and prevention efforts.

Objective: To determine if baseline linguistic markers in natural speech, as compared to non-speech clinical and demographic measures, can predict drug use severity measures at future sessions in initially abstinent individuals with cocaine use disorder (iCUD).

Design: A longitudinal cohort study (August 2017 - March 2020), where baseline measures were used to predict outcomes collected at three-month intervals for up to one year of follow-up.

Introduction The objective of this quality improvement study was to assess radiology report follow-up recommendation trends upon detection of incidental renal lesions before and after instituting standardized follow-up macros.  Materials and methods A retrospective review was performed in 2019 of multiphase imaging workups on renal lesions (n = 396), including the following imaging modalities: ultrasound, CT with and without contrast, and spine MRI. Background: Substance use disorder is characterized by distinct cognitive processes involved in emotion regulation as well as unique emotional experiences related to the relapsing cycle of drug use and recovery. Web-based communities and the posts they generate represent an unprecedented resource for studying subjective emotional experiences, capturing population types and sizes not typically available in the laboratory. This report describes the complete genome sequence of a peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV) isolate from Ethiopia in 2014. The strain (PPRV/Ethiopia/Habru/2014), which showed a normal virulence and relatively low morbidity in the field, belongs to the North African subclade of Lineage IV.

The application of epiphenotyping approaches to DNA methylation array studies of the human placenta.

: Genome-wide DNA methylation (DNAme) profiling of the placenta with Illumina Infinium Methylation bead arrays is often used to explore the connections between exposures, placental pathology, and fetal development. However, many technical and biological factors can lead to signals of DNAme variation between samples and between cohorts, and understanding and accounting for these factors is essential to ensure meaningful and replicable data analysis. Recently, "epiphenotyping" approaches have been developed whereby DNAme data can be used to impute information about phenotypic variables such as gestational age, sex, cell composition, and ancestry.
