Good oral health is crucial to overall well-being, and everyone needs to have equal access to quality oral healthcare. Despite this, disparities in oral health still exist on an international scale. In 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) adopted a global oral health strategy to reduce oral diseases and health inequities through public health approaches, integrating oral health with primary healthcare and adopting innovative workforce models.

Football Players With Hip Dysplasia: The Relationship Between Muscle Strength, Functional Performance, Self-reported Sport and Recreation, Cartilage Defects, and Sex. A Cross-sectional Study.

In symptomatic football players with hip dysplasia, we aimed to explore the relationships between self-reported sport and recreation ability and (1) hip muscle strength, (2) functional performance, and investigate if these relationships were modified by sex or cartilage defects. In this cross-sectional study, football players (n = 50) with longstanding (>6 months) hip and/or groin pain, a positive flexion/adduction/internal rotation test, and a lateral-center-edge angle <25° were included. Hip muscle strength and functional performance were assessed.

Biochemical recurrence in patients with prostate cancer after primary definitive therapy: treatment based on risk stratification.

Background: Nearly one-third of patients with prostate cancer (PCa) experience biochemical recurrence (BCR) after primary definitive treatment. BCR increases the risk of distant metastasis and mortality in patients with prognostically unfavorable features. These patients are best managed with a tailored treatment strategy incorporating risk stratification using clinicopathological factors, next-generation imaging, and genomic testing.

Application of next-generation imaging in biochemically recurrent prostate cancer.

Background: Biochemical recurrence (BCR) following primary interventional treatment occurs in approximately one-third of patients with prostate cancer (PCa). Next-generation imaging (NGI) can identify local and metastatic recurrence with greater sensitivity than conventional imaging, potentially allowing for more effective interventions. This narrative review examines the current clinical evidence on the utility of NGI for patients with BCR.

Multidisciplinary Teams for the Management of Infective Endocarditis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Background: The management of infective endocarditis (IE) is complex owing to a high burden of morbidity and mortality. Recent guidelines recommend dedicated multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) for the management of IE. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to evaluate and summarize the effect of MDT management on patient outcomes.

Improved pearl millet genomes representing the global heterotic pool offer a framework for molecular breeding applications.

High-quality reference genome assemblies, representative of global heterotic patterns, offer an ideal platform to accurately characterize and utilize genetic variation in the primary gene pool of hybrid crops. Here we report three platinum grade de-novo, near gap-free, chromosome-level reference genome assemblies from the active breeding germplasm in pearl millet with a high degree of contiguity, completeness, and accuracy. An improved Tift genome (Tift23DB-P1-P5) assembly has a contig N50 ~ 7,000-fold (126 Mb) compared to the previous version and better alignment in centromeric regions.

Contaminant biomonitoring augmented with a qPCR array indicates hepatic mRNA gene expression effects in wild-collected seabird embryos.

Birds can bioaccumulate persistent contaminants, and maternal transfer to eggs may expose embryos to concentrations sufficient to cause adverse effects during sensitive early-life stages. However, using tissue residue concentrations alone to infer whether contaminant effects are occurring suffers from uncertainty, and efficient, sensitive biomarkers remain limited in wildlife. We studied relationships between whole embryo contaminant concentrations (total mercury, organochlorine pesticides, perfluoroalkyl substances, polychlorinated biphenyls, and halogenated flame retardants) together with mRNA expression in embryonic liver tissue from a Pacific Ocean seabird, the rhinoceros auklet (Cerorhinca monocerata).

Observer preference of artificial intelligence-generated versus clinical prostate contours for ultrasound-based high dose rate brachytherapy.

Background: For trans-rectal ultrasound (TRUS)-based high dose rate (HDR) prostate brachytherapy, prostate contouring can be challenging due to artifacts from implanted needles, bleeding, and calcifications.

Purpose: To evaluate the geometric accuracy and observer preference of an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm for generating prostate contours on TRUS images with implanted needles.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of 150 patients, who underwent HDR brachytherapy.

Computational refocusing in phase-resolved confocal microscopy.

We demonstrate numerical refocusing in coherent confocal laser scanning microscopy based on synthetic optical holography. In this physics-based approach, computational propagation is implemented on the complex signal recovered in synthetic holography, consistent with wave physics and the parameters of the microscope. An experimental demonstration is shown to restore an in-focus image of a test object from data acquired at several focal plane off-sets.

Carbohydrate flow through agricultural ecosystems: Implications for synthesis and microbial conversion of carbohydrates.

Carbohydrates are chemically and structurally diverse biomolecules, serving numerous and varied roles in agricultural ecosystems. Crops and horticulture products are inherent sources of carbohydrates that are consumed by humans and non-human animals alike; however carbohydrates are also present in other agricultural materials, such as soil and compost, human and animal tissues, milk and dairy products, and honey. The biosynthesis, modification, and flow of carbohydrates within and between agricultural ecosystems is intimately related with microbial communities that colonize and thrive within these environments.

Determination of digestibility and passage rate is important for further understanding of nutrient utilization and thereby aids in improving nutrient utilization efficiency. Titanium dioxide and chromium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid are commonly used as indigestible markers for determining passage rates of diets to aid in determination of digestibility. Analyzing Ti and Cr involves the use of procedures such as acid digestions, inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, and atomic absorption.

Regulation of 20α-Hydroxysteroid Dehydrogenase Expression in Term Pregnant Human Myometrium Ex Vivo.

Metabolic inactivation of progesterone within uterine myocytes by 20α-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (20α-HSD) has been postulated as a mechanism contributing to functional progesterone withdrawal at term. In humans, 20α-HSD is encoded by the gene AKR1C1. Myometrial AKR1C1 mRNA abundance has been reported to increase significantly during labor at term.

Evaluating the Effectiveness of Apps Designed to Reduce Mobile Phone Use and Prevent Maladaptive Mobile Phone Use: Multimethod Study.

Background: Mobile apps are a popular strategy for reducing mobile phone use and preventing maladaptive mobile phone use (MMPU). Previous research efforts have been made to understand the features of apps that have the potential to reduce mobile phone use and MMPU. However, there has been a lack of a comprehensive examination of the effectiveness of such apps and their features.

Effects of racket moment of inertia on racket head speed, impact location and shuttlecock speed during the badminton smash.

How the racket properties impact performance of the badminton smash is relatively unknown, and further insight could help players/coaches select the most appropriate racket. Three-dimensional position data of the racket and shuttlecock were collected (500 Hz) for 20 experienced badminton players performing a series of forehand smashes with five swingweight ([Formula: see text]) perturbed rackets, ranging from 85-106 kg·cm. [Formula: see text] was calculated using a balance board and simple pendulum method, and modal analysis was performed using laser vibrometry to capture the fundamental frequency and distal node location for each racket.

Patterns of Recurrence in Appendix Cancer After Complete Cytoreduction and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy.

Background: It is thought that low-grade (LG) appendiceal cancer (AC) demonstrates predominantly intraperitoneal recurrence (IPR) after cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (CRS/HIPEC), whereas high-grade (HG) tumors progress both intra- and extraperitoneally (EPR). However, evidence supporting this conception is lacking; therefore, we assessed recurrence in various AC histologies.

Methods: A retrospective, cohort study was conducted by using a single-center database (1998-2022).

Sampling and Characterization of Bioaerosols in Poultry Houses.

Two poultry Confined Animal Feeding Units (CAFUs), "House A" and "House B", were selected from the TAMU poultry facility for the study, and samples were collected over a five-day period. Bioaerosol sampling was conducted using a Wetted Wall Cyclone (WWC) bioaerosol collector at the two CAFU houses, in which House A housed approximately 720 broiler chickens and roosters, while House B remained unoccupied and served as a reference. Both houses consisted of 24 pens arranged on either side of a central walkway.

Ultrasound-Guided Occipital Nerve Blocks as Part of Multi-Modal Perioperative Analgesia in Pediatric Posterior Craniotomies: A Case Series.

Various regional anesthetics have been used for postoperative analgesia for pediatric craniotomy. In this case series, we report retrospectively collected data on postoperative pain and analgesic use in 44 patients who received ultrasound-guided occipital nerve blocks in addition to intravenous analgesic agents for posterior craniotomy procedures. In the immediate post-anesthesia care unit, pain was rated as zero or well controlled in 77% of patients, with only 43% requiring intravenous or demand patient-controlled analgesia opioids.

Microglial REV-ERBα regulates inflammation and lipid droplet formation to drive tauopathy in male mice.

Alzheimer's disease, the most common age-related neurodegenerative disease, is characterized by tau aggregation and associated with disrupted circadian rhythms and dampened clock gene expression. REV-ERBα is a core circadian clock protein which also serves as a nuclear receptor and transcriptional repressor involved in lipid metabolism and macrophage function. Global REV-ERBα deletion has been shown to promote microglial activation and mitigate amyloid plaque formation.

Methods: This study compared football players with hip dysplasia (HD group) and without hip dysplasia (control group).

Optimal initial position and technique for the front foot contact phase of cricket fast bowling: Commonalities between individual-specific simulations of elite bowlers.

Group-based and individual-based studies in cricket fast bowling have identified common technique characteristics associated with ball release speed. The applicability of these findings to individual bowlers is often questioned, however, due to research approach limitations. This study aims to identify whether the optimal initial body position at front foot contact and subsequent technique to maximise ball release speed exhibit common characteristics for elite male cricket fast bowlers using individual-specific computer optimisations.

Aggregated Molecular Phenotype Scores: Enhancing Assessment and Visualization of Mass Spectrometry Imaging Data for Tissue-Based Diagnostics.

Mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) has gained increasing popularity for tissue-based diagnostics due to its ability to identify and visualize molecular characteristics unique to different phenotypes within heterogeneous samples. Data from MSI experiments are often assessed and visualized using various supervised and unsupervised statistical approaches. However, these approaches tend to fall short in identifying and concisely visualizing subtle, phenotype-relevant molecular changes.

Impact of skip mediastinal lymph node metastasis on outcomes after resection for primary lung cancer.

Objectives: Patients with non-small cell lung cancer and nodal disease are a heterogeneous group with varied patterns of disease. The aim of this study was to assess long-term outcomes of patients with skip N2 disease in comparison to those with N1 or non-skip N2 disease.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective review of 445 patients undergoing anatomical lung resection for primary lung cancer between 2012 and 2019 with post-operative histological confirmation of nodal disease was undertaken.

Patient-reported health-related quality of life outcomes following mastectomy for breast cancer, with immediate, delayed or no breast reconstruction: Four-year follow-up from a prospective cohort study.

Background: Breast reconstruction (BR) improves women's health-related quality of life (HRQOL) following mastectomy for breast cancer, yet factors contributing to improved HRQOL remain unclear. This study aimed to explore the overall impact of mastectomy with or without BR on participants' perceptions of HRQOL over time in a cohort of women with high-risk breast cancer; to examine differences in mean HRQOL scores between immediate BR, delayed BR and no BR groups; to assess the influence of patient characteristics potentially associated with HRQOL scores; and to determine the feasibility of long-term collection of patient-reported outcome measures in clinical settings.

Methods: A prospective, longitudinal study of 100 women with high-risk breast cancer who underwent mastectomy with or without breast reconstruction and were likely to require post-mastectomy radiotherapy.
