Introduction: Although the widespread use of screening tests and HPV vaccines for squamous cell carcinoma has led to early detection and treatment, effectiveness is limited for cervical adenocarcinoma. Lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia (LEGH) corresponds to gastric metaplasia, but is regarded as a pathological condition with subtle morphological abnormalities. LEGH is a benign lesion and a precursor to gastric-type adenocarcinoma.

ETV6::LYN fusion gene is recognized as one of the genetic alterations responsible for myeloid/lymphoid neoplasms with eosinophilia and tyrosine kinase gene fusions (MLN-TK) according to the 2022 WHO classification. However, the clinical features and pathogenesis of MLN-TK with ETV6::LYN are not well defined because of the rarity of the disease. Here, we report an MLN-TK patient with ETV6::LYN that manifested as myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) with eosinophilia, myelofibrosis, and T-lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL), which eventually led to acute myeloid leukemia.

We retrospectively evaluated the impacts of using granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and its timing on posttransplant outcomes for 9766 adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) between 2013 and 2022 using a Japanese database. We separately evaluated three distinct cohorts based on graft type: 3248 received bone marrow transplantation (BMT), 3066 received peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (PBSCT), and 3452 received single-unit cord blood transplantation (CBT). Multivariate analysis showed that G-CSF administration significantly accelerated neutrophil recovery after BMT, PBSCT, and CBT.

Congenital protein C (PC) deficiency is a mostly autosomal dominant hereditary thrombophilia associated with early onset arterial and venous thrombotic diseases. In newborns, PC deficiency results in severe complications such as cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, and purpura fulminans, leading to death in some cases. We report two cases of deep vein thrombosis diagnosed during pregnancy that prompted genetic testing confirming definitive congenital PC deficiency.

Article Synopsis
  • * Data from a nationwide survey included 986 PCOS cases and 965 controls, revealing that 75% of Japanese PCOS patients were non-obese/overweight, with differing hormone levels and incidence rates of symptoms when compared to obese/overweight patients.
  • * The findings suggest that including hirsutism in diagnostic criteria could improve the accuracy of PCOS diagnoses, particularly aligning with international standards, and highlight the importance of measuring basal luteinizing hormone (LH) levels for understanding the hormonal profile of these patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Nontraumatic shoulder pain is common among male high school volleyball players, yet previous studies have not thoroughly assessed the various contributing factors to this issue.
  • The study hypothesized that limited shoulder internal rotation, muscle strength imbalances, sensory issues, and joint stability are associated with shoulder pain, and many players do not report their pain to coaches.
  • Among 49 players evaluated, 39% reported shoulder pain, particularly during jump serves; however, 95% of them failed to inform their coaches, prompting a need for better communication to enhance athlete care and prevention strategies.

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), mainly obtained from fish, have been implicated in fetal development. Because few studies have examined maternal and umbilical cord blood fatty acid levels and infant body size in Japan with a fish-eating culture, we examined differences in plasma fatty acid levels in pregnant women and infant size at birth. This study is a large birth cohort study of 1476 pairs of Japanese pregnant women and their infants.

Purpose: Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common types of cancer affecting women. While the hematoxylin-and-eosin (H&E) staining remains the standard for histological analysis, the immunohistochemistry (IHC) method provides molecular-level visualizations. Our study proposes a digital staining method to generate the hematoxylin-3,3'-diaminobenzidine (H-DAB) IHC stain of Ki-67 for the whole slide image of the EC tumor from its H&E stain counterpart.

Prognosis for patients undergoing hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) has been improving. Short-term survival information, such as crude survival rates that consider deaths immediately after the transplantation, may not be sufficiently useful for assessing long-term survival. Using the data of the Japanese HCT registry, the net survival rate of patients who survived for a given period was determined according to age, disease, and type of transplant.
