Background/objectives: Many pregnant women globally suffer from depression and are routinely prescribed selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). These drugs function by blocking the re-uptake of serotonin by the serotonin transporter (SERT) into neurons, resulting in its accumulation in the presynaptic cleft. Despite a large amount of research suggesting a potential link to neurodevelopmental disorders in children whose mothers took these drugs during pregnancy, their possible adverse effects are still debated, and results are contradictory.

The unexpected 4,1-hydroaminoalkylation of dienes provides selective access to linear homoallylic amines by zirconium catalysis. This switch from the traditional branched preferred regioselectivity to selective linear product formation using this early transition metal can be attributed to π-allyl intermediates. The reactivity of these isolated intermediates on a sterically accessible and coordinatively flexible chelating bis(ureate) Zr(iv) complex confirmed reversible C-C bond formation in hydroaminoalkylation catalysis.

Paracetamol, or acetaminophen (AAP), is the most commonly used analgesic during pregnancy and early life. While therapeutic doses of AAP are considered harmless during these periods, recent findings in both humans and rodents suggest a link between developmental exposure to AAP and behavioral consequences later in life. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of neonatal exposure to clinically relevant doses of AAP on adult spontaneous behavior, habituation, memory, learning, and cognitive flexibility later in life using a mouse model.

Human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) are pluripotent cells, capable of differentiation into different cellular lineages given the opportunity. Derived from the inner cell mass of blastocysts in early embryonic development, the cell self-renewal ability makes them a great tool for regenerative medicine, and there are different protocols available for maintaining hESCs in their undifferentiated state. In addition, protocols for differentiation into functional human neural stem cells (hNSCs), which have the potential for further differentiation into various neural cell types, are available.

The major facilitator superfamily (MFS) is known as the largest and most diverse superfamily containing human transporters, and these transporters are essential as they sustain the homeostasis within cellular compartments by moving substances over lipid membranes. We have identified a novel MFS protein, named Major facilitator superfamily domain containing 6 (MFSD6), and confirmed that it is phylogenetically related to the human Solute Carrier (SLC) transporter family. A homology model of MFSD6 revealed 12 predicted transmembrane segments (TMS) with the classical MFS fold between TMS 6 and 7.

The solute carrier (SLC) family-38 of transporters has eleven members known to transport amino acids, with glutamine being a common substrate for ten of them, with SLC38A9 being the exception. In this study, we examine the subcellular localization of SNAT10 in several independent immortalized cell lines and stem cell-derived neurons. Co-localization studies confirmed the SNAT10 was specifically localized to secretory organelles.
