Evaluation of Depression, Anxiety, and Sexual Function in Rectal Cancer Patients Before and After Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy.

Objective: The association of treatment-related side effects and tumor characteristics with sexual function, depression, and anxiety were investigated in patients with locally advanced rectum cancer (LARC) receiving neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CRT).

Material And Methods: Thirty-two patients who received neoadjuvant CRT with LARC were included. The Arizona Sexual Experiences (ASEX) Scale was used to determine the sexual function status whereas the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used to evaluate the depression and anxiety status of the patient, respectively.

Selective local postoperative radiotherapy for T3-T4 N0 laryngeal cancer.

Purpose: We aimed to investigate the appropriate postoperative radiotherapy dose and selective volume in T3-4 N0 laryngeal cancer patients treated with either total or partial laryngectomy.

Methods: Patients who received radiotherapy for locally advanced (T3-T4) and pathologic node-negative (N0) squamous cell laryngeal cancer were retrospectively evaluated. Radiotherapy was applied to median 60 Gy (range 54-60 Gy) as selective local radiotherapy (±stoma).

Comparison of changes in renal function with dosimetric parameters in gastric cancer patients treated with adjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

Purpose: Our objective was to analyze kidney damage using glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and dynamic renal scintigraphy (DRS) compared with dose volume histogram (DVH) parameters in gastric cancer patients.

Materials And Methods: Twenty-two gastric cancer patients treated with postoperative chemoradiotherapy were retrospectively evaluated. Student's t test was used to compare pre- and posttreatment GFR and creatinine values.

Randomized trial of oral misoprostol treatment for cervical ripening before tandem application in cervix cancer.

Purpose: To investigate the efficacy of oral misoprostol administered to facilitate tandem application to the cervix as a part of brachytherapy in patients with cervical cancer.

Methods And Materials: Eighty patients with cervical cancer who had been planned to undergo brachytherapy at Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Training and Research Hospital were evaluated in a double-blind, prospective, randomized trial.

The investigation of fetal doses in mantle field irradiation.

To determine clinically the fetal dose from irradiation of Hodgkin's disease during pregnancy and to quantify the components of fetal dose using phantom measurements. The fetal dose was measured with phantom measurements using thermoluminescent dosemeters (TLDs). Phantom measurements were performed by simulating the treatment conditions on an anthropomorphic phantom.

Tandem application with transvaginal ultrasound guidance.

Purpose: Intrauterine tandem placement can be difficult in brachytherapy for cervical cancer. A prospective study was planned to investigate transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) guidance for intrauterine tandem insertions in the treatment of cervix cancer.

Methods And Materials: Between January 1997 and January 2002, TVU was used after pelvic external beam radiotherapy in 48 cervical cancer patients with a high complication risk because the cervical canal orifice could not be identified and/or the patients could not undergo hysterometry.
