Dysnomia is typically assessed during neuropsychological evaluation through visual confrontation naming. Responsive naming to description, however, has been shown to have a more distributed representation in both fMRI and cortical stimulation studies. While naming deficits are common in dementia, the relative sensitivity of visual confrontation versus auditory responsive naming has not been directly investigated.

Depression is common in Parkinson's disease (PD) and affects 30 to 50% of all patients. In contrast to the wealth of research on depression in PD, little is known about the occurrence of depression in other movement disorders. The primary objective of the current study was to determine whether the high prevalence of depression symptoms seen in PD is also found in other movement disorders, by directly comparing rates of specific depression symptoms and depression severity across PD, dystonia, and essential tremor (ET).

Alexia without agraphia, or "pure" alexia, is an acquired impairment in reading that leaves writing skills intact. Repetition priming for visually presented words is diminished in pure alexia. However, it is not possible to verify whether this priming deficit is modality-specific or modality independent because reading abilities are compromised.

During fertilization or ionophore induced activation, ascidian eggs rapidly release cell surface N-acetylglucosaminidase activity used in the block against polyspermy and undergo cortical contractions before they re-initiate meiosis. To better understand the activation process, we probed the relationship between these two processes in Ascidia ceratodes eggs by activating with different agents that increase intracellular Ca levels and under different ionic conditions. Glycosidase activity release was followed by the use of a fluorogenic substrate, and cortical contractions were followed by examining changes in cell shape with light microscopy.
