Infection Prevention in Combat-Related Injuries.

Wound infections play an important role in the morbidity and mortality of service members injured in combat. The exigent and often long road to recovery can be complicated by healthcare-associated infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. The outcome is not only financially taxing but also can be life threatening.

Introduction: As part of an international response to the Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak, the US Department of Defense has deployed thousands of personnel to help train and augment international health care workers. The transmission risk of this deadly virus to health care workers has been extreme, demonstrating the importance of safe practices while caring for these patients. Medical simulation training is well recognized as an integral component for disease outbreak preparedness.

Junctional Tourniquet Training Experience.

Since 2009, out-of-hospital care of junctional hemorrhage bleeding from the trunk-appendage junctions has changed, in part, due to the newly available junctional tourniquets (JTs) that have been cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration. Given four new models of JT available in 2014, several military services have begun to acquire, train, or even use such JTs in care. The ability of users to be trained in JT use has been observed by multiple instructors.
