- The study investigated the prevalence and significance of RA-associated erosions in newly presenting arthritis patients suspected of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) using routine X-rays of hands and feet (X-HF).
- The results showed that erosions were found in only 4.4% of the 724 patients, with minimal influence on diagnosis (change in 0.3% of cases) and prognosis (change in 0.4% of cases).
- Ultimately, the low prevalence and limited impact on diagnostic and prognostic classifications suggest reconsidering the routine use of X-HF in such patients.
