In this study, we used the Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis as a marine benthic organism model to investigate the metabolic consequences of exposure to different polyethylene terephthalate MP sizes and shapes: round (27-32 μm), small fibers (200-400 μm), large fibers (3000 μm), small fragments (20 μm), medium fragments (45-75 μm), and large fragments (>150 μm). After exposure to high concentrations (100 mg L) of MP for 14 days, round and small fiber-type MP were highly accumulated in mussels.

To address this, we developed the Sliding Microneedle (MN)-Lateral flow immunoassay strip (LFIAs) device that combines the advantages of MNs and LFIAs to detect IL-6, an independent biomarker for diabetes complications. The objective of this study was to perform an analysis of the contrast spread pattern within the cervical epidural space, taking into account different needle tip positions in the mPIL approach.
Methods: A total of 48 patients were included in the study and randomly assigned to either the medial or lateral group based on the needle tip's position in the anterior-posterior view.
A novel reactivity toward C-F bond functionalization has been developed, which could be designated as fluorine atom transfer (FAT). A photoexcited state of an -heterocyclic carbene-ligated boryl radical exhibits a transcendent reactivity, capable of activating chemically inert carbon-fluorine bonds through homolysis. Combined experimental and computational studies suggest that the ligated boryl radical species directly abstracts a fluorine atom from the organofluoride substrates to provide valuable carbon-centered radicals.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: This study was performed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of lurasidone (160 mg/day) compared to quetiapine XR (QXR; 600 mg/day) in the treatment of acutely psychotic patients with schizophrenia.
Methods: Patients were randomly assigned to 6 weeks of double-blind treatment with lurasidone 160 mg/day (n=105) or QXR 600 mg/day (n=105). Primary efficacy measure was the change from baseline to week 6 in Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) total score and Clinical Global Impressions severity (CGI-S) score.
Although biocides are important materials in modern society and help protect human health and the environment, increasing exposure to combined biocides can cause severe side effects in the human body, such as lung fibrosis. In this study, we developed a receptonics system to screen for biocides in combined household chemical products based on biocides. The system contains transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) nanovesicles (NVs) to sense biocides based on pain receptors and a side-gated field-effect transistor (SGFET) using a single-layer graphene (SLG) micropattern channel.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: The Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) is a widely used self-report for assessing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), originally aligned with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)-IV diagnostic criteria. This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of the IES-R under the DSM-5 guidelines and establish a cutoff point for DSM-5 PTSD diagnosis.
Methods: A total of 238 participants recruited from multiple psychiatric centers, including 67 patients with PTSD, 72 patients with psychiatric controls, and 99 healthy controls, were included in the study.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFThis study conducted real-time monitoring of size-resolved particle concentrations ranging from 9 nm to 10 μm simultaneously at four sites on the park ground and the roof of a five-story apartment buildings in the upwind and downwind areas of the Olympic Expressway next to apartment complex areas of Seoul, Korea. Using a positive matrix factorization model for source apportionment, eight factors were resolved at each monitoring site: four exhaust emissions of vehicles, one non-exhaust emission of vehicle, two regional sources, and one unknown source. After categorizing monitoring data into three cases by wind conditions, impact and contribution of each vehicle-related source on the local road to the roadside pollution was quantified and characterized by subtracting the urban background concentrations.

This study aimed to develop a novel scoring system to be easily applied at the time of emergency department arrival for identifying favorable neurologic outcomes in OHCA survivors with an asystole rhythm.
Methods: This study is a secondary analysis based on a previously collected nationwide database, targeting nontraumatic adult OHCA patients aged ≥18 years with an asystole rhythm who achieved return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) between January 2016 and December 2020.
Live coccidiosis vaccines have mainly been used to reduce species infection, which is considered the most economically important disease in the poultry industry. Evaluation data on vaccine effectiveness through large-scale field experiments are lacking, especially in broilers. Thus, the effectiveness of a commercial coccidiosis vaccine was evaluated in approximately 900,000 chicks reared on three open-broiler farms where coccidiosis is prevalent.

In this study, we utilized CRISPR-dCas9 interference screening to identify genes regulating sensitivity to PARP inhibitors in breast cancer cell lines.
