Entropion, or the inward turning of the eyelid, is common, particularly in older patients. The condition is classified as involutional, cicatricial, spastic or congenital. Involutional entropion is most common and typically treated with lateral tarsal strip, which may be combined with other techniques for eyelid eversion.

Preoperative Expectations of Women Undergoing Breast Reconstruction Surgery.

Background: The study investigated the expectations of patients undergoing immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy, considering factors such as the cause for mastectomy (cancer versus prophylactic due or gene mutations), age, marital status, and education.

Methods: The study had a cross-sectional design. Eligible patients at Oslo University Hospital received a link to the BREAST-Q Expectations questionnaire, which they filled out before surgery from 2019 to 2022.

Brassiere Cup Size Agreement between Patients and Plastic Surgeons: Do Surgeons and Patients Speak the Same Size Language?

Unlabelled: Patients undergoing plastic surgery of the breasts often communicate their size expectations as a brassiere cup size. However, multiple factors may cause a miscommunication between the surgeon and patient when brassiere cup size is used as a measure of results. The aim of this study was to determine the degree of agreement between disclosed and estimated brassiere cup size and also interrater agreement.

Optisol-GS Storage of Cultured Human Limbal Epithelial Cells at Ambient Temperature Is Superior to Hypothermic Storage.

Purpose: To investigate the feasibility of using Optisol-GS as a convenient, xenogeneic-free alternative for storage of cultured human limbal epithelial cells (HLECS) for use in treatment of limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD). In the present study, we compared storage of cultured HLEC using the conventional hypothermic Optisol-GS storage method at 4°C versus storage at 23°C (room temperature).

Materials And Methods: HLECs were cultured for three weeks on amniotic membrane (AM), transferred to polypropylene containers and stored in Optisol-GS for 4 days at 23°C and 4°C.

Autologous breast reconstruction (BR) aims to restore body image and improve health-related quality of life in women undergoing mastectomy due to breast cancer. We wanted to explore patient-reported cosmetic results and satisfaction 10 or more years post BR surgery, using deep inferior epigastric perforator flap (DIEP). This is a follow-up study based on the same patient population of 34 patients undergoing delayed DIEP-flap procedure during 2001-2004 at Oslo University Hospital investigated by our group and published in 2008; Four patients died during the 10 years' follow-up time and four patients with total or partial flap failure were excluded.

High Throughput Screening of Additives Using Factorial Design to Promote Survival of Stored Cultured Epithelial Sheets.

There is a need to optimize storage conditions to preserve cell characteristics during transport of cultured cell sheets from specialized culture units to distant hospitals. In this study, we aimed to explore a method to identify additives that diminish the decrease in the viability of stored undifferentiated epidermal cells using multifactorial design and an automated screening procedure. The cultured cells were stored for 7-11 days at 12°C in media supplemented with various additives.

DIEAP Flap Patients Equally as Satisfied with the Abdomen as Abdominoplasty Patients.

Background: The dermolipectomy of the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator (DIEAP) flap procedure is designed to give an end result as seen with abdominoplasty (AP). Several steps of an AP are, however, not routinely performed. This study compared the patient-reported outcomes between these 2 procedures with an emphasis on the abdomen.
