Dynamic communication between hepatocytes and the environment is critical in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. Clinical immunotherapy against HCC is currently unsatisfactory and needs more systemic considerations, including the identification of new biomarkers and immune checkpoints. Transmembrane 4 L six family member 5 (TM4SF5) is known to promote HCC, but it remains unclear how cancerous hepatocytes avoid immune surveillance and whether avoidance can be blocked.

The structure and function of the mammalian gut vary by region, yet why inflammatory diseases manifest in specific regions and not others remains unclear. We use a TNF-overexpressing Crohn's disease (CD) model (Tnf ), which typically presents in the terminal ileum (TI), to investigate how environmental factors interact with the host's immune susceptibility to drive region-specific disease. We identified , an intracellular bacterium and murine counterpart to the human sexually transmitted , as necessary and sufficient to trigger disease manifestation in the ascending colon (AC), another common site of human CD.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes symptoms similar to a mild cold for adults, but in case of infants, it causes bronchitis and/or pneumonia, and in some cases, mortality. Mucosal immunity within the respiratory tract includes tissue-resident memory T (T) cells and tissue-resident memory B (B) cells, which provides rapid and efficient protection against RSV re-infection. Therefore, vaccine strategies should aim to generate mucosal immune responses.

Objective: To identify the prevalence and factors associated with T-score discordance between the spine and hip, as well as between the paretic and non-paretic hips in hemiplegic stroke patients, this study investigated bone mineral density (BMD) patterns. Bone loss predominantly affects the paretic hip after a stroke, and typical clinical assessments using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) that scan the lumbar spine (LS) and a single hip may overlook an osteoporosis diagnosis. This oversight could potentially lead to suboptimal treatment for stroke patients.

Background: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has emerged as a promising tool for stroke rehabilitation, supported by evidence demonstrating its beneficial effects on post-stroke recovery. However, patients with skull defects, such as burr holes, have been excluded from tDCS due to limited knowledge regarding the effect of skull defects on the electric field.

Objective: We investigated the effect of burr holes on the electric field induced by tDCS and identified the electrode location that modulates the electric field.

The development of a nonnoble metal-based cost-effective, efficient, and durable bifunctional electrocatalyst is crucial to achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. In this study, a structural and interfacial engineering approach is employed to design a 2D-2D hierarchical nickel MOF/nickel hydroxide-derived nickel selenide/nickel telluride dual-phase material through a single-step selenotellurization process. The rational design of highly ordered nanoarchitectures provides well-defined voids and ample pathways for ion diffusion.

Ligand-specific binding interactions of xenobiotics with receptor proteins form the basis of cytotoxicity-based hazard assessment. Computational approaches enable predictive hazard assessment for a large number of chemicals in a high-throughput manner, minimizing the use of animal testing. However, in silico models for predicting mechanisms of toxic actions and potencies are difficult to develop because toxicity datasets or comprehensive understanding of the complicated kinetic process of ligand-receptor interactions are needed for model development.

Speaker recognition is a technology that identifies the speaker in an input utterance by extracting speaker-distinguishable features from the speech signal. Speaker recognition is used for system security and authentication; therefore, it is crucial to extract unique features of the speaker to achieve high recognition rates. Representative methods for extracting these features include a classification approach, or utilizing contrastive learning to learn the speaker relationship between representations and then using embeddings extracted from a specific layer of the model.

Attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy is widely used to study condensed materials due to its convenient sample preparation and ability to avoid absorption saturation. Recently, it has been applied to and observations of chemical reactions within electrochemical devices, such as lithium-ion batteries. However, because ATR-FTIR spectroscopy relies on frequency-dependent attenuated reflectance, quantitative concentration measurements of chemical species using the Beer-Lambert law are challenging.
