The molecular distribution at the liquid-vapor interface and evolution of the hydrogen bond interactions in mixtures of glycerol and choline chloride are investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy. Nanoscale depth profiles of supersaturated deep eutectic solvent (DES) mixtures up to ∼2 nm measured by ambient-pressure XPS show the enhancement of choline cation (Ch) concentration by a factor of 2 at the liquid-vapor interface compared to the bulk. In addition, Raman spectral analysis of a wide range of DES mixtures reveals the conversion of gauche-conformer Ch into the anti-conformer in relatively lower ChCl concentrations.

We report a novel detection method for single aqueous droplets in organic solvents by the collisional contact of the droplet, inducing the partial deformation of the ultramicroelectrode (UME) surface. For various chemical reactions in organic solvents, water impurities affect the catalytic activity, leading to a loss of productivity and selectivity. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the water content of organic solvents in real time between many chemical production processes, from the laboratory to the industrial scale.

Unlabelled: T cell-engaging antibodies (TCEs) are showing promising efficacy in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma, even in patients that relapsed after B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA)-targeted therapy. Patients with multiple myeloma may have compromised T-cell health unaccounted for by preclinical models. Here, we use Myeloma Drug Sensitivity Testing (My-DST) for ex vivo measurement of anti-multiple myeloma cytotoxicity for the trispecific CD38/CD28xCD3 TCE SAR442257 through activation of the patients' own endogenous T cells to inform clinical development of the compound in multiple myeloma.

Purpose: Anemia has been shown to be a modifiable pre-operative, patient factor associated with outcome following arthroplasty. The aims of this retrospective study were to (1) ascertain the prevalence of preoperative anemia in patients undergoing primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty at a tertiary referral center and (2) to test the association with outcome and whether it differs between primary and revision cases.

Coulombic energy is stored in oversaturated interfacial assemblies of charged nanoparticle-surfactants by an applied DC electric field and can be released on demand. Background: At sites of vessel injury, thrombin acts as the central mediator of coagulation by catalyzing fibrin clot formation and platelet activation. Thrombin generation is most frequently measured in plasma samples using small-molecule substrates; however, these have low specificity for thrombin and limited utility in whole blood. Plasma assays are limited because they ignore the hemostatic contributions of blood cells and require anticoagulation and the addition of supraphysiological concentrations of calcium.

Although it is evident that PM has serious adverse health effects, there is no consensus on what the biologically effective dose is. In this study, the intrinsic oxidative potential (OPm) and the extrinsic oxidative potential (OPv) of PM were measured using three chemical assays including dithiothreitol (DTT), ascorbic acid (AA), and reduced glutathione (GSH), along with chemical compositions of PM in South Korea. Among the three chemical assays, only OPm showed a statistically significant correlation with PM while OPm and OPm were not correlated with PM mass concentration.

Protein kinase C (PKC) plays a key role in modulating the activities of the innate immune cells of the central nervous system (CNS). Employing flux-grown single crystal WSe_{2}, we report charge-carrier scattering behaviors measured in h-BN encapsulated monolayer field effect transistors. We observe a nonmonotonic change of transport mobility as a function of hole density in the degenerately doped sample, which can be explained by energy dependent scattering amplitude of strong defects calculated using the T-matrix approximation. Utilizing long mean-free path (>500  nm), we also demonstrate the high quality of our electronic devices by showing quantized conductance steps from an electrostatically defined quantum point contact, showing the potential for creating ultrahigh quality quantum optoelectronic devices based on atomically thin semiconductors.

The ability to target the native production site of factor VIII (FVIII)-liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs)-can improve the outcome of hemophilia A (HA) gene therapy. By testing a matrix of ultrasound-mediated gene delivery (UMGD) parameters for delivering a GFP plasmid into the livers of HA mice, we were able to define specific conditions for targeted gene delivery to different cell types in the liver. Subsequently, two conditions were selected for experiments to treat HA mice via UMGD of an endothelial-specific human FVIII plasmid: low energy (LE; 50 W/cm, 150 μs pulse duration) to predominantly target endothelial cells or high energy (HE; 110 W/cm, 150 μs pulse duration) to predominantly target hepatocytes.
