Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the pharyngeal airway volume change after bimaxillary surgery in patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion and evaluate the difference in postoperative pharyngeal airway space between upper premolar extraction cases and nonextraction cases.

Materials And Methods: Cone-beam computed tomographic scans were obtained for 23 patients (13 in extraction group and 10 in nonextraction group) who were diagnosed with mandibular prognathism before surgery (T0) and then 2 months (T2) and 6 months after surgery (T3). Using InVivoDental 3-dimensional imaging software, volumetric changes in the pharyngeal airway space were assessed at T0, T2, and T3.

Purpose Of Review: The key features of aspirin-exacerbated respiratory diseases (AERDs) include chronic, severe asthma and a high prevalence (60-80%) of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, all of which are exacerbated by exposure to aspirin and other NSAIDs. Although the pathogenic mechanisms of AERD are not completely understood, repeated instances have shown intense eosinophilic infiltrations of upper and lower airway mucosa, and dysregulation of arachidonate metabolisms. Here, recent updates on the pathogenic mechanisms of chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps in aspirin-exacerbated respiratory diseases are summarized.

A computerized asthma-specific quality of life: a novel tool for reflecting asthma control and predicting exacerbation.

Background: Proper assessment of health-related quality of life is essential to achieve and maintain a controlled status in asthmatic patients. We developed our own computerized asthma-specific quality-of-life (cA-QOL) questionnaire based on in-depth interviews with adult asthmatic patients. In this study, we evaluated this cA-QOL in terms of the Asthma Control Test (ACT) score and Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) guidelines as well as asthma exacerbation, and compared it with the asthma-related quality-of-life questionnaire (AQLQ).

This study examined psychological distress levels, their differences across groups based on sociodemographic and medical variables, and risk factors for significant distress in adolescent and young adult childhood cancer survivors in Korea. Participants consisted of 223 Korean survivors of childhood cancer between 15 and 39 years of age. Psychological distress was measured using the Brief Symptom Inventory-18.
