Bidirectional gated recurrent unit network model can generate future visual field with variable number of input elements.

Purpose: This study aimed to predict future visual field tests using a bidirectional gated recurrent unit (Bi-GRU) and assess its performance based on the number of input visual field tests and the prediction time interval.

Materials And Methods: This study included patients who underwent visual field tests at least four times at five university hospitals between June 2004 and April 2022. All data were accessed in October 2022 for research purposes.

PET imaging of colon cancer CD73 expression using cysteine site-specific Zr-labeled anti-CD73 antibody.

CD73 is a cell-surface ectoenzyme that hydrolyzes the conversion of extracellular adenosine monophosphate to adenosine, which in turn can promote resistance to immune checkpoint blockade therapy. Immune response may therefore be improved by targeting tumor CD73, and this possibility underlines the need to non-invasively assess tumor CD73 level. In this study, we developed a cysteine site-specific Zr-labeled anti-CD73 (Zr-CD73) IgG immuno-PET technique that can image tumor CD73 expression in living bodies.

RIP1 (receptor-interacting protein kinase 1) is an important component of TNF-α signaling that contributes to various pathological effects. Here, we revealed new potential roles of RIP1 in controlling WNT/β-catenin canonical signaling to enhance metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC). First, we showed that WNT3A treatment sequentially increased the expression of RIP1 and β-catenin.

Emergence of NDM-1-producing Sequence Type 773 Clone: Shift of Carbapenemase Molecular Epidemiology and Spread of 16S rRNA Methylase Genes in Korea.

Imipenemase (IMP)-6-producing sequence type (ST) 235 is a dominant clone of carbapenemase-producing (CPPAE) in Korea. As part of the Antimicrobial Resistance Surveillance System in Korea, we found an increase in the carbapenem resistance rate of isolates from blood cultures and a shift in the molecular epidemiology of CPPAE. A total of 212 non-duplicated blood isolates were obtained from nine general hospitals and two nursing homes.

Role of phloretin as a sensitizer to TRAIL-induced apoptosis in colon cancer.

Phloretin is one of the apple polyphenols with anticancer activities. Since tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) serves important roles in inducing apoptosis, the present study examined the effect of phloretin on TRAIL-induced apoptosis in colon cancer cells. Treatment with both phloretin and TRAIL markedly suppressed the survival of cancer cells from several colon cancer cell lines compared with that of cells treated with either TRAIL or phloretin.

Effects of oral iron chelator deferasirox on human malignant lymphoma cells.

Background: Iron is essential for cell proliferation and viability. It has been reported that iron depletion by a chelator inhibits proliferation of some cancer cells. Deferasirox is a new oral iron chelator, and a few reports have described its effects on lymphoma cells.

Gene cloning and enzymatic properties of hyperthermostable beta-glycosidase from Thermus thermophilus HJ6.

A microorganism (strain HJ6) producing extracellular beta-glycosidase was isolated from a hot springs located in Arima-cho, Hyogo, Japan. The cells were long-rods (2-4 microm) about 0.4 microm in diameter, and formed yellow-colored colonies, like most other strains of the genus Thermus.

Development of child and adolescent psychiatric nursing practice in Korea, 1980-2000.

Problem: Although the need for mental health services for children and youth is on the rise in Korea, there are no data available regarding the current status of psychiatric nurses working with children and adolescents.

Methods: Descriptive statistics were used to analyze questionnaires from 324 respondents.

Findings: Only 5% of psychiatric nurses in Korea are working at child and adolescent-specific programs.
