Bilateral adrenal hemorrhage (AH) is linked to various causes, including bacterial and viral infections, coagulopathies, and postoperative states. Symptoms can range from mild adrenal insufficiency to shock from Waterhouse-Friedrichsen syndrome. We present a case of a 47-year-old male with antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (APS) on warfarin who presented to the emergency department (ED) with bilateral flank pain and was found to have bilateral AH.

"Window of Opportunity" in Ocular Graft-Versus-Host Disease Treatment: Results of a Longitudinal Study and Case Reports.

Objective: To perform a longitudinal study for determining the development of ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) and report cases that illustrate the "window of opportunity" concept in oGVHD treatment.

Methods: Patients (n=61) were examined at prescheduled clinic visits before HSCT and three-month intervals after HSCT for 2 years. The presence or absence of oGVHD was determined using the international chronic oGVHD consensus group diagnostic criteria.

Contrasting presentations of the same disease: A comparison of two cases of amyloidosis presenting with eyelid involvement.

Purpose: Localized amyloidosis can affect numerous tissues throughout the body and can also affect a variety of peri-ocular tissues including the conjunctiva, extra-ocular muscles, peri-orbital soft tissue, and lacrimal gland. We report two cases of amyloidosis presenting with eyelid involvement.

Observations: The first case represented a more subtle presentation of skin thickening with a pre-septal cellulitis, while the second case had a dramatic presentation of edema evolving into tissue dehiscence and spontaneous hemorrhage with ongoing angioedema and systemic coagulopathy.

QuPath Automated Analysis of Optic Nerve Degeneration in Brown Norway Rats.

Purpose: A novel application of QuPath open-source digital analysis software is used to provide in-depth morphological analysis of progressive optic nerve (ON) degeneration in rats.

Methods: QuPath software was adapted to assess axon and gliotic morphology in toluidine blue-stained, Brown Norway rat ON light micrographs. QuPath axon numbers, density, size distributions, and gliotic areas were obtained from test images and ON cross-sections separated by damage grade.

Is Korea Ready to Be a Key Player in the Medical Tourism Industry? An English Education Perspective.

Background: This study attempted to identify the problem South Korea faces in its development of the medical tourism industry from the perspective of English education.

Methods: To assess the preparedness and problems of future Korean nurses in dealing with foreign patients, a questionnaire was conducted in 2017 on 146 freshman and sophomore nursing major students at CHA University in South Korea.

Results: Although the nursing major students were highly satisfied with the English instructors, they did not feel that the curriculum prepared them well to deal with foreign patients in the future.

Metastatic breast carcinoma involving the optic disc.

Purpose: To report a rare case of unilateral optic nerve metastasis without choroidal involvement in a patient with known metastatic carcinoma of the breast.

Observations: A 65-year old female with a history of metastatic breast carcinoma presented to our clinic with a one-month history of blurred vision and floaters of the left eye. Fundoscopy of the left eye revealed a flesh colored nodule with white lobules demonstrating an endophytic growth pattern from the optic nerve.

Matching response to need: What makes social networks fit for providing bereavement support?

The objectives of this study were to explore the goodness of fit between the bereaved peoples' needs and the support offered by their social networks; to ascertain whether this support was experienced as helpful or unhelpful by bereaved people; and to explore both the types of social networks that offer effective support and the characteristics of the communities that encourage and nurture such networks. This study was based on qualitative interviews from twenty bereaved people, in Western Australia, interviewed in 2013. A framework analysis of these interviews was undertaken using a deductive approach based on the goodness of fit framework.

Is there a role for the funeral service provider in bereavement support within the context of compassionate communities?

This is the first study to explore bereaved individuals' experiences of funeral service providers using these services' databases. A total of 839 Australians participated in a postal survey, 6-24 months into their bereavement. Funeral providers were reported to be the third most prevalent form of bereavement support after friends and family.

How religious and spiritual beliefs explain prolonged grief disorder symptoms.

This study investigated the importance of religious and spiritual beliefs in daily life in explaining prolonged grief disorder (PGD) symptomatology. Participants were 588 bereaved adults who completed a questionnaire. The importance of spiritual beliefs in daily life explained a small to medium, significant 3% of variance in PGD symptoms, but religious beliefs in daily life did not.

Demonstration of the Glagov phenomenon in vivo by CT coronary angiography in subjects with elevated Framingham risk.

Computed tomography coronary angiography (CTA) is a novel, non-invasive method for coronary plaque detection and quantification. We hypothesized that CTA can detect early vessel wall thickening with preserved luminal size in patients without known coronary artery disease and intermediate/high Framingham Risk Score (FRS) compared to those with low FRS. Vessel-wall and plaque geometrical and compositional parameters were measured on CTA in 375 coronary segments with a highly standardized method.
