Severe Acute Kidney Injury with Necrotizing Glomerulonephritis After Piperacillin/Tazobactam Therapy in a Patient with Peritonitis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Piperacillin/tazobactam (PT), a widely utilized broad-spectrum antibiotic, has been associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). Although the precise mechanism remains uncertain, and most cases of PT-associated AKI are mild, this report describes a rare and severe complication of PT, which manifested as severe AKI with necrotizing glomerulonephritis requiring hemodialysis. A 42-year-old man was transferred to the nephrology clinic due to progressive deterioration of kidney function.

NR1B1/RARα expression is dynamically regulated in cytotoxic lymphocytes (CTLs) in tumors, but the importance of its expression in anti-tumor CTLs remains unknown. RARα gene expression is upregulated in CTLs in tumor microenvironments (TME), but its protein expression is downregulated by retinoic acid. The role of RARα expression in regulating anti-tumor effector CTL (Teff) differentiation is reported.

Long-term gait improvement following a CSF tap test in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus patients: an analysis of clinical outcomes.

Objectives: To evaluate the sustained effects of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) tap test (TT) on gait parameters over one month in patients with idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH).

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 150 patients with iNPH from two university hospitals who underwent CSF TT and quantitative gait analysis. Gait parameters, including walking speed (WS) and stride length (SL), were measured before, within 24 h after, and one month after the CSF TT.

Association of oral opioid usage and mortality in patients with inflammatory arthritides: a Korean nationwide cohort study.

Objectives: Recent studies have raised concerns regarding usage of opioids, a class of drugs widely used for managing chronic pain in musculoskeletal disorders; however, its potential risks remain incompletely understood. This study aimed to evaluate the association between oral opioid use and mortality in a nationwide inflammatory arthritides (IA) cohort.

Methods: Data were obtained from the National Health Insurance Sharing Service database in South Korea, including 161 907 patients with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and psoriatic arthritis between 2010 and 2022.

Objective: The objective of this manuscript is to present BMI-for-age percentile curves for men and women aged 45 to 90 years.

Methods: Weighted empirical percentile estimates were calculated using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) comprehensive cohort (2011-2018) according to age and sex. Statistical smoothing procedures were used to generate smoothed curves for the percentile values.

Preclinical investigation of anti-tumor efficacy of allogeneic natural killer cells combined with cetuximab for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) presents a significant therapeutic challenge because of the limited effectiveness of current treatments including immunotherapy and chemotherapy. This study investigated the potential of a novel combination therapy using allogeneic natural killer (NK) cells and cetuximab, an anti-epidermal growth factor receptor monoclonal antibody, to enhance anti-tumor efficacy in HNSCC. Allogeneic NK cells were tested against HNSCC cells in vitro and NOG (NOD/Shi-scid/IL-2Rγ null) xenograft mouse models for cytotoxicity.

Introduction: Prediction of nonhome discharge after open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of distal femur fractures may facilitate earlier discharge planning, potentially decreasing costs and improving outcomes. We aim to develop algorithms predicting nonhome discharge and time to discharge after distal femur ORIF and identify features important for model performance.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of adults in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database who underwent distal femur ORIF between 2010 and 2019.

In this work, a very simple yet efficient and high-throughput route for pattern transfer was investigated based on the self-assembly of block copolymers (BCPs).

Unlabelled: We tested the hypothesis that environmental enrichment (EE) can attenuate early-onset cognitive decline in a stress-hyperresponsive rat strain. The novel genetic model, the Wistar Kyoto More Immobile (WMI) inbred rat strain demonstrates increased stress reactivity and enhanced depression-like behavior compared to its nearly isogenic control, the Wistar Kyoto Less Immobile strain (WLI). Middle-aged (12 months) WMI females exhibited diminished fear, and spatial memory in the contextual fear conditioning and Morris Water Maze paradigms, respectively, compared to young animals (6 months) of both strains and to middle-aged WLIs.

Following recent advancements in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) instrumentation and software algorithms, the next bottleneck in achieving high-resolution cryo-EM structures arises from sample preparation. To overcome this, we developed a graphene-based affinity cryo-EM grid, the Graffendor (GFD) grid, to target low-abundance endogenous protein complexes. To maintain grid quality and consistency within a single batch of 36 grids, we established a one-step crosslinking batch-production method using genetically modified ALFA nanobody as affinity probe (GFD-A grid).

We used electrocorticography to record neural signals across 100 h of speech production and comprehension as participants engaged in open-ended real-life conversations. We extracted low-level acoustic, mid-level speech and contextual word embeddings from a multimodal speech-to-text model (Whisper).
