Background: The Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) method is a widely used tool for assessing patient severity and predicting survival probability in trauma care. However, its accuracy and applicability in the Korean context, particularly for neurotrauma patients, have not been thoroughly validated yet. Previous studies at a single institution have identified significant discrepancies between TRISS predictions and actual outcomes, particularly in severe neurotrauma cases.

In recent years, there has been active investigation into using the methylation profile of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), derived from blood, as a promising indicator for diagnosing and monitoring colon cancer.
Results: We propose a liquid biopsy-based epigenetic method developed by utilizing 49 patients and 260 healthy controls methylation profile data to screen and monitor colon cancer.
Background: Phenome-wide association studies (PheWASs) have been conducted on Asian populations, including Koreans, but many were based on chip or exome genotyping data. Such studies have limitations regarding whole genome-wide association analysis, making it crucial to have genome-to-phenome association information with the largest possible whole genome and matched phenome data to conduct further population-genome studies and develop health care services based on population genomics.
Results: Here, we present 4,157 whole genome sequences (Korea4K) coupled with 107 health check-up parameters as the largest genomic resource of the Korean Genome Project.

A hierarchical cobalt carbonate hydroxide (CCH) nanostructure with outstanding electrochemical kinetics and structural stability for energy storage is largely unknown. Herein, we report tin oxide-functionalized CCH surface-enabled unique two-dimensional (2D) interlayered heterostructures that promote high conductivity with more electroactive sites to maximize redox reactions. A simple electrodeposition technique was utilized to construct the hierarchical 2D CCH electrode, while a surface-reinforced method was employed to fabricate the 2D interlayered SnO on CCH.

However, the emergence of highly transmissible SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern (VOCs) has led to substantial increase in infections among children and adolescents. Vaccine-induced immunity and longevity have not been well defined in this population.

In Korea, evaluations of regional trauma centers are conducted annually to assess and improve trauma management quality. This includes using the Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) method to calculate the W-score and mortality Observed-to-Expected ratio (O:E ratio), which are used to evaluate the quality of care.

Methods: This was a single-centre retrospective study. Data from patients who underwent abdominal total mesorectal excision (TME) from October 2015 to October 2022 were analysed.
Background: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and approximately half of AMI-related deaths occur before the affected individual reaches the hospital. The present study aimed to identify and validate genetic variants associated with AMI and their role as prognostic markers.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a replication study of 29 previously identified novel loci containing 85 genetic variants associated with early-onset AMI using a new independent set of 2,920 Koreans [88 patients with early- and 1,085 patients with late-onset AMI, who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), and 1,747 healthy controls].
Tixagevimab/cilgavimab is a monoclonal antibody used to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 among immunocompromised hosts and maintained neutralizing activity against early omicron variants. Omicron BN.1 became a dominant circulating strain in Korea early 2023, but its susceptibility to tixagevimab/cilgavimab is unclear.

Herein, we demonstrated a simple and feasible phosphorization technique to design three-dimensional (3D) network-like vanadyl pyrophosphate ((VO)PO) nanowires on flexible carbon cloth (CC) (VP-CC). The phosphorization process enabled the VP-CC to increase the electronic conductivity, and the interconnected nano-network of VP-CC opens pathways for fast charge storage during the energy storage processes.

The Korean Trauma Data Bank (KTDB) was established in 2013 and maintains a prospective database. In this study, based on KTDB data, we investigated the characteristics of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in patients who visited our RTC.

In addition, a survey was administered to Korean neurosurgeons to investigate the perception of ICP monitoring in patients with sTBI.
Methods: This study used data from the second Korea Neurotrauma Databank.
Introduction: The effect of tixagevimab/cilgavimab (Evusheld™; AstraZeneca, UK) should be evaluated in the context of concurrent outbreak situations.
Methods: For serologic investigation of tixagevimab/cilgavimab during the BA.5 outbreak period, sera of immunocompromised (IC) hosts sampled before and one month after tixagevimab/cilgavimab administration and those of healthcare workers (HCWs) sampled one month after a 3 shot of COVID-19 vaccines, five months after BA.
Among several electrocatalysts for energy storage purposes including supercapacitors, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), and their derivatives have spurred wide spread interest owing to their structural merits, multifariousness with tailor-made functionalities and tunable pore sizes. The electrochemical performance of supercapacitors can be further enhanced using in situ grown MOFs and their derivatives, eliminating the role of insulating binders whose "dead mass" contribution hampers the device capability otherwise. The expulsion of binders not only ensures better adhesion of catalyst material with the current collector but also facilitates the transport of electron and electrolyte ions and remedy cycle performance deterioration with better chemical stability.

Body fluids contain many substances, including cells, proteins, and nucleic acids originating from normal tissues, but some of these substances also originate from the diseased area. The investigation and analysis of these substances in the body fluids play a pivotal role in the diagnosis of various diseases.

It comprises basal cistern, midline shifting (MLS), epidural hematoma (EDH), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)/intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) status. Brain computed tomography (CT) is important to assessing patients with sTBI; however, results often change over time.

In literature, occlusion of the tube with brain parenchyma, choroid plexus, blood, and proteinaceous debris has been suggested as a mechanism of obstruction. We herein report a case of shunt malfunction without any identifiable occlusion.
