Background: Catatonia is a neuropsychiatric syndrome, which typically occurs in the context of another psychiatric or medical condition, with a significant morbidity and mortality risk. Significant medical conditions resulting from catatonia include nutritional deficiencies, skin ulcerations, electrolyte disturbances, aspiration pneumonia, and venous thromboembolism.
