Bound-State Beta Decay of ^{205}Tl^{81+} Ions and the LOREX Project.

Stable ^{205}Tl ions have the lowest known energy threshold for capturing electron neutrinos (ν_{e}) of E_{ν_{e}}≥50.6  keV. The Lorandite Experiment (LOREX), proposed in the 1980s, aims at obtaining the longtime averaged solar neutrino flux by utilizing natural deposits of Tl-bearing lorandite ores.

Management of Anastomotic Leakage after Colorectal Resection: Survey among the German CHIR-Net Centers.

(1) Background: A widely accepted algorithm for the management of colorectal anastomotic leakage (CAL) is difficult to establish. The present study aimed to evaluate the current clinical practice on the management of CAL among the German CHIR-Net centers. (2) Methods: An online survey of 38 questions was prepared using the International Study Group of Rectal Cancer (ISREC) grading score of CAL combined with both patient- and surgery-related factors.

[Position paper on reporting of intestinal ultrasound findings in patients with inflammatory bowel disease].

Background: Intestinal ultrasound is increasingly used for primary diagnosis, detection of complications and monitoring of patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. Standardization of reporting is relevant to ensure quality of the methodology and to improve communication between different specialties. The current manuscript describes the features required for optimized reporting of intestinal ultrasound findings in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Association of ileocolic pedicle division with postoperative complications after restorative proctocolectomy and ileal pouch-anal anastomosis for ulcerative colitis.

Background: When performing a restorative proctocolectomy (RPC) with an ileal pouch-anal anastomosis (IPAA), it is common practice to divide the ileocolic artery (ICA) if the patient has a tumor or dysplasia, or in order to gain sufficient length to secure a tension-free anastomosis. However, it is unclear whether there is an association between division of the ICA and the rate of postoperative complications.

Methods: We retrospectively analysed all patients with ulcerative colitis who underwent RPC and IPAA in our department between January 2010 and December 2016.

Optical Fiber Sensor for Temperature and Strain Measurement Based on Multimode Interference and Square-Core Fiber.

A variety of specialty fibers such as no-core fiber (NCF) have already been studied to reveal their sensing abilities. In this work, we investigate a specialty fiber, square-core fiber, for temperature and strain sensing. A simple single-mode-multimode-single-mode (SMS) fiber sensor was fabricated, consisting of a 30-cm-long square-core fiber.

Checkpoint Inhibitor-Induced Colitis-A Clinical Overview of Incidence, Prognostic Implications and Extension of Current Treatment Options.

In recent years, anti-tumor immunotherapies have witnessed a major breakthrough with the emergence of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). However, the use of ICIs has also brought an era of a certain class of adverse events that differ from those of classical chemotherapies and are more reminiscent of autoimmune diseases. This article focuses exclusively on colitis as an irAE with emphasis on vulnerable patient groups, the prognostic significance of colitis, treatment, and new therapeutic approaches that may be applicable.

[Chronic anastomotic leak after low rectal resection-an unsolved problem?].

There is no generally accepted definition of a chronic anastomotic leak, which often presents as a chronic sinus. The corresponding time interval required from primary anastomotic construction ranges from 2 months to 12 months. Between 2% and 16% of all patients develop this complication after low anterior rectal resection.

Predictors of weight loss in participants with obesity following bariatric surgery - A prospective longitudinal fMRI study.

Prevalence rates of overweight and obesity are increasing worldwide and are amongst the leading causes of death. Participants with obesity also suffer from poorer mental health with a concomitant reduced quality of life. Bariatric surgery outperforms other existing weight optimization approaches.

Report on 2020 Safe to Touch Consensus Conference on Hazardous Drug Surface Contamination.

Purpose: The 2020 Safe to Touch Consensus Conference on Hazardous Drug Surface Contamination was convened in order to gather subject matter experts in the field of hazardous drug (HD) handling to develop consensus statements regarding surface contamination monitoring for adoption by stakeholders in the drug supply chain, policy, and healthcare arenas.

Summary: The Safe to Touch conference convened virtually on September 22, 24, and 26, 2020. An expert panel of healthcare providers with experience in HD handling, monitoring, and research; pharmacy and nursing operations; and medication safety led the conference.

KRAS/GNAS-testing by highly sensitive deep targeted next generation sequencing improves the endoscopic ultrasound-guided workup of suspected mucinous neoplasms of the pancreas.

Pancreatic cysts or dilated pancreatic ducts are often found by cross-sectional imaging, but only mucinous lesions can become malignant. Therefore, distinction between mucinous and non-mucinous lesions is crucial for adequate patient management. We performed a prospective study including targeted next generation sequencing (NGS) of cell-free DNA in the diagnostic endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided workup.

Clinical outcome and quality of life after gracilis muscle transposition for fistula closure over a 10-year period.

Purpose: Gracilis muscle transposition (GMT) is an established surgical technique in the treatment of anorectal fistulas and fistulas to the vagina and the urinary system when previous closure options have failed. There is little evidence on the success rate of this procedure in the long term.

Methods: This is a follow-up study on all patients undergoing GMT over a 10-year period at a tertiary referral center for complex fistulas.

Reliability of neural food cue-reactivity in participants with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery: a 26-week longitudinal fMRI study.

Obesity is highly prevalent worldwide and results in a high disease burden. The efforts to monitor and predict treatment outcome in participants with obesity using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) depends on the reliability of the investigated task-fMRI brain activation. To date, no study has investigated whole-brain reliability of neural food cue-reactivity.

Molecular characterization of ulcerative colitis-associated colorectal carcinomas.

Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) are at increased risk for developing colorectal cancer (CRC). In contrast to sporadic colorectal tumorigenesis, TP53 mutations occur early in the progression from inflamed colonic epithelium to dysplasia to CRC, and are sometimes readily detectable in inflamed, (yet) non-dysplastic mucosa. Here, we analyzed formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue samples from 19 patients with long-standing UC (median 18 years, range 3 to 34) who had developed CRC as a consequence of chronic inflammation of the large bowel.

[Minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery for chronic inflammatory bowel disease : Current status and evidence situation].

The majority of cases of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can be treated by minimally invasive surgery. The advantages of standard laparoscopic approaches compared to open surgery with respect to short-term and long-term outcome parameters have been adequately proven with evidence level 1 for ileocecal resection in Crohn's disease. For many other indications there are at least several larger registry or case-control studies that have shown advantages for laparoscopy.

Gallbladder Cancer Presenting as Mirizzi Syndrome Complicated by Rapidly Evolving 23 rRNA Gene-Linezolid Resistance with Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococcus Infection Resulting in Fatal Cholangial Sepsis.

We describe the case of a 71-year-old woman who presented with obstructive jaundice and subhilar bile duct stenosis. MRI showed extensive cholecystolithiasis with an impacted bile stone in the cystic duct suggesting Mirizzi syndrome. Delayed enhancement of the thickened gallbladder wall suggested inflammation instead of carcinoma.
