Objective: In 2021; half of crash fatalities occurred at night when some road users, like pedestrians, are particularly vulnerable. Automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems can avoid or mitigate collisions by automatically applying the brakes, but their performance may be hindered in low lighting. The purpose of this study was to estimate the proportion of real-world crashes where headlights could provide enough visibility for the driver or AEB system to detect and avoid the collision.

This study used the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) PAEB test data to characterize PAEB responses in different lighting conditions and for different rated systems.
Methods: Data from 6,919 IIHS PAEB tests were retrieved from IIHS databases.
The proceedings of the 36th annual meeting of the Industrial Genotoxicology Group (IGG) are shared here. The meeting held at Lhasa Limited, Leeds, UK on 28th November 2023, focussed two aspects; New Approach Methodologies (NAM's), including those for the assessment of non-standard modalities such as gas-vapour assessments and nanomaterials, and addressing the regulatory challenges associated with understanding the genotoxic and carcinogenic potential of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosamine impurities. New approach methodologies, such as error-corrected sequencing and enhanced Ames tests that may help address these challenges were also discussed.

We present a single case of a 47 year old male with a relapsing progressive neurological disease characterised by an infiltrative inflammation of the brain and leptomeninges. Investigations revealed the presence of systemic sarcoidosis which was confirmed histologically following a mediastinal lymph node biopsy. The imaging appearances of the brain and spinal canal lesions were compatible with neurological involvement by the same disease.

By evaluating induction of various reporter genes that play a key role in relevant cellular pathways, it provides insight into chemical mode-of-action (MoA), thereby supporting discrimination of direct-acting genotoxicants and cytotoxic chemicals. A comprehensive interlaboratory validation trial was conducted, in which the principles outlined in OECD Guidance Document 34 were followed, with the primary objectives of establishing transferability and reproducibility of the assay and confirming the ability of ToxTracker to correctly classify genotoxic and non-genotoxic compounds.

The goal of this study was to estimate the effects of front crash prevention systems equipped to passenger vehicles in crashes where another passenger vehicle, a medium/heavy truck, or a motorcycle is struck and compare effectiveness by struck vehicle type.
Methods: More than 160,000 two-vehicle rear-end crashes were identified where a passenger vehicle with or without FCW and AEB was the striking vehicle and another passenger vehicle, medium/heavy truck, or motorcycle was the struck vehicle.
Sarcoidosis affects the nervous system in 5% of cases. 60% of cases involve the cranial and peripheral nerves, the remainder the central nervous system, in which a leptomeningitis, a pachymeningitis and a vasculitis may arise. Stroke and cerebral haemorrhage may occur, and certain infections in the brain are more likely with sarcoidosis.

We present a case in which cerebral infarction was seen and Behcet's syndrome was diagnosed. Following investigation and monitoring, we identified that the cause was a progressive obliterative focal arteritis of the middle cerebral artery. Such an entity has not previously been reported, although similar cases are described which explain the pathophysiology of the disorder.

Recent mutagenicity and carcinogenicity studies have used ecNGS to quantify drug-/chemical-induced mutations and mutational spectra associated with cancer risk. ecNGS has potential applications in genotoxicity assessment as a new readout for traditional models, for mutagenesis studies in 3D organotypic cultures, and for detecting off-target effects of gene editing tools.
