A 62-year-old man presented with fever and anorexia since July X. Initial treatments were rendered ineffective, and due to altered consciousness and vomiting, he was referred to our hospital. On admission, he manifested delirium, drowsiness, and disorientation.

Association Between Psychological Readiness to Return to Sports at 3 Months Postoperatively and Risk of Second ACL Injury.

Background: Psychological readiness to return to sports (RTS) has been associated with second anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. However, this relationship is controversial because covariates such as anatomic and knee function characteristics have not been adequately considered.

Purpose/hypothesis: To investigate whether psychological readiness in the early postoperative period can predict the occurrence of a second ACL injury within 24 months after primary ACL reconstruction (ACLR) using propensity score analysis.

Introduction/aims: Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) presents with skeletal muscle weakness, followed by cardiorespiratory involvement. The need for longitudinal data regarding DMD that could serve as a control for determining treatment efficacy in clinical trials has increased notably. The present study examined the longitudinal data of Japanese DMD patients collectively and assessed individual patients with pathogenic variants eligible for exon-skipping therapy.

Percutaneous shunt vessel embolisation with Amplatzer vascular plugs II and IV in the treatment of dogs with splenophrenic shunts: four cases (2019-2022).

Objectives: To describe the treatment of four dogs with splenophrenic shunts using percutaneous shunting vessel embolisation with Amplatzer vascular plugs II and IV and provide information on their clinical outcomes.

Materials And Methods: Dogs with splenophrenic shunts treated at a veterinary hospital from January 2019 to December 2022 were identified through a medical record search.

Results: Six dogs with splenophrenic shunts were identified.

Effects of adoptive T-cell immunotherapy on immune cell profiles and prognosis of patients with unresectable or recurrent cholangiocarcinoma.

The identification of immune cell profiles (ICP) involved in anti-tumor immunity is crucial for immunotherapy. Therefore, we herein investigated cholangiocarcinoma patients (CCA) who received adoptive T-cell immunotherapy (ATI). Eighteen unresectable or recurrent CCA received ATI of αβ T cells alone or combined with chemotherapy.

Combining age, sex, body mass index, sport level, and preoperative quadriceps strength improves the predictive ability of quadriceps strength recovery after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Purpose: This study compared the predictive ability of each independent predictor with that of a combination of predictors for quadriceps strength recovery one year after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

Methods: Patients who underwent primary ACL reconstruction using hamstring autografts were enrolled. Quadriceps strength, hamstring strength, and anterior tibial translation were measured, and the limb symmetry index (LSI) of the quadriceps and the hamstrings was calculated preoperatively and one year after surgery.

Therapeutic response and prognostic factors of 14 dogs undergoing transcatheter arterial embolization for hepatocellular masses: A retrospective study.

Background: Information regarding the therapeutic effect and outcome of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) for hepatic masses is limited in veterinary medicine.

Hypothesis/objectives: To analyze the therapeutic response, outcome (overall survival), and their predictors in dogs that underwent TAE for primary hepatocellular masses. We hypothesized that larger pre-TAE tumors would be associated with worse outcomes.

Microwave ablation for the control of bleeding from disintegrated mammary tumours in two dogs.

A 16-year-old intact female Miniature Dachshund (dog 1) and a 13-year-old intact female American Cocker Spaniel (dog 2) presented with a chief complaint of bleeding from a mammary gland tumour ulceration. Dog 1 was transferred to hospital from a local hospital in a haemorrhagic shock state with uncontrolled continuous bleeding. Thoracic radiographs revealed multiple nodular shadows suspected to be pulmonary metastasis.

Efficacy of PET/CT in diagnosis of regional lymph node metastases in patients with colorectal cancer: retrospective cohort study.

Background: Endoscopic and transanal local resection without lymph node dissection are treatment options for patients with a low risk of lymph node metastasis; however, some patients might have undiagnosed lymph node metastases before surgery. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative PET/CT for diagnosing regional lymph node metastasis.

Methods: Patients who underwent curative resection with lymph node dissection for colorectal cancer at Osaka University between January 2012 and December 2015 were included.

Association Between Meeting Return-to-Sport Criteria and Psychological Readiness to Return to Sport After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction.

Background: The relationship between meeting return-to-sport criteria and psychological readiness after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is unknown.

Purposes: To examine (1) whether patients who met 1 of the criteria for return to sport had higher psychological readiness than those who did not meet any of the criteria and (2) if those who met more criteria had higher psychological readiness.

Background: Temporary fully covered self-expandable metal stent (FCSEMS) placement is performed for benign choledochojejunal anastomotic stenosis (bCJS). However, recurrence may develop after stricture resolution. We investigated endoscopic biliary stenting using FCSEMS for bCJS.

Background: Few studies have examined patient satisfaction with playing pre-injury sports after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The purpose of this study was to investigate patient satisfaction with playing pre-injury sport and identify factors associated with satisfaction.

Methods: A total of 97 patients underwent unilateral ACL reconstruction using a hamstring autograft and returned to pre-injury sports 1 year after surgery.

Reading Comprehension Tests for Children: Test Equating and Specific Age-Interval Reports.

We describe the equating of two alternative forms of a reading comprehension test for Brazilian children (2nd to 5th grade), Form A ( = 427) and Form B ( = 321). We employed non-equivalent random groups design with internal anchor items.

Case Report: Transcatheter Arterial Embolization for the Initial Management of Intra-Abdominal Hemorrhage From a Hepatic Tumor in a Cat.

An 8-year-old Ragdoll cat was admitted to our hospital after its owner noticed sudden lethargy. Abdominal ultrasonography showed a large amount of blood in the abdominal cavity, and the cat was diagnosed as having hemorrhagic shock caused by the rupture of an intra-abdominal mass. Blood transfusion was performed on the 1st day of hospitalization.

Long-acting erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) induces physiological erythropoiesis via improvement of iron availability.

Purpose: Previous studies reported that the long-acting erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) significantly suppresses the expression of hepcidin, which regulates iron availability. In this study, we compared the iron availability for erythropoiesis between short and long-acting ESA over a long period.

Methods: We enrolled 69 hemodialysis patients in this study.

Trapezius muscle branch of the spinal accessory nerve without penetrating the sternocleidomastoid muscle as a pitfall in neck dissection: prevalence in a Japanese institution and a protocol for the prevention of iatrogenic injury.

Background: The spinal accessory nerve (SAN) has several anatomical variations, which may be a pitfall in neck dissection (ND). These include the trapezius muscle branch (TB), which stems from the common trunk before entering the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM).

Aims/objectives: To investigate the prevalence of this variation and suggest a protocol for preventing unexpected injury of the TB in ND.
